I nipped into Tesco yesterday as we were completely out of loo roll! I picked up some reduced bread so spent a total of £2.32. This leaves me with just under £11 in my budget and I am going to need some milk and fruit at the very least still and I only got 9 rolls of toilet roll which might not last long in a family of 6 lol. I might manage it but honestly if I go slightly over I won't be too worried because £21 of my budget went on school snacks until Christmas for the youngest so I am allowing a £20 buffer this month.

Hello from America, all! :hello: Thanks @thriftwizard! I landed safe and sound with a bit of a beginning of a cold but I think I'll be fine in the next few days. It's a low level bug but it's not hindering me at all. Just need to catch up on sleep. A lot of people on my flight from the UK seemed to be sick as well and I'm noticing several people sniffling here in NYC too. Maybe it's the "back to school" colds people are getting from their kids?
Anyway, yesterday was a NSD as I passed out after arriving at my accommodations. Today I've been working in the library and went to the salad bar at Whole Foods for lunch and to buy a few things. 2 packs of blackberries (2 for $5), bulk prunes, and a KIND bar. Total was $19.44 but $11 of that was the salad/hot bar for lunch and a snack before an event I'm attending this evening.
After the event I'll head to a different Whole Foodsbefore going home and will get some groceries to last me a couple of days:
- yoghurt
- bulk cereal
- milk
- deli meat
- blackberries and an apple
- a small packet of peanut butter to eat with the apple
I have to shop in a very temporary/transient fashion for the next couple of weeks. I'm in one accommodation for a few days then moving to another for about 10 days before I settle into a more permanent place for 3.5 months. So, I know I'll be spending quite a bit on let's say the salad bar and some prepared food because I can't cook too much in the first two places. I've planned out an eating pattern for the next few days to minimize waste and expense since I'm really trying to watch my money right now.
TOTALS SO FAR:
$19.44 / $150

Oooohh, well done all you meal planners!!I do keep saying I am going to do it,but there are still too many days I come home, and say to the kids "I don't knowwwwwwwww" when they ask "What's for tea?":o
Spends over the last couple of days:
Milk(from the local garage.)£1.75.Only bought it yesterday, and the kids are already saying it tastes funny

I am going away tomorrow for a long weekend with some friends,so tonight I did a grocery shop to make sure there was enough food in the house for partner and 4 kids until Monday night. It was Tesco, and it wasn't all basics, ready to cook from scratch. There was a few ready cooked meals. So that would have all bumped up the cost.there was also a few snacks to take away with me.Also bought dishwasher
salt and rinse aid,cotton dish cloths,shampoo/conditioner.Spent tonight:£85.25

Shopping was a bit more than the £25 I was hoping for but still not too bad at £32.16, the price was bumped up as I needed to buy fly spray and I need the mozzie one as we get a lot where we live. There were only 3 left on the shelf so I picked up 2 so that was £6 more than anticipated so my actual shopping would have come in around the £25 mark!
£84.28 left for next week should be under my £200 target for the month. Final shop for September will be Thursday 27th.

oh dear I'm over budget. I spent £36.85 in Asda but in my defence I got 4 packets of sausages for 80p each and a packet of 6 chicken breast down from £5 to £2.19 all of which except one packet of sausages is safely tucked into the freezer until next month, and I got tonnes of reduced fruit which I've popped into the fridge so it should be good into the start of next month. I also got some ice Cream I didn't plan to as we have lots of sore throats here, and I had a small sick boy who requested a microwave cheese burger for lunch_pale_ . Then I spent £7.42 in lidl on some crisps for pack lunch, a few bags of chips as I'm not feeling great so it's a nice to have something to just throw in (and they are a lot cheaper than Asda) and some pull up pants. Then the sick boy asked for pretzels.
I'm currently at £183.43/ £150
I'm not too bothered, I have about 20 dinners in and enough pack lunch for week or so it should even out. If I take the £21 snack money off my total I'd only be £12.50 over budget :rotfl:DEC GC £463.67/£450

I can't stick to a strict meal plan so I plan out about 10 meals at a time that I can make from stuff I have in or with little added to it, then I decide the night before/morning of which things I need to lift out/throw in the slow cooker.DEC GC £463.67/£450

I think I'm probably going to go over-budget; there's too much month left at the end of my money, after a £47.50 spend this morning and with another weekend to go before payday. If I'd stuck to the original £450 I'd probably be all right, but having spent that extra £60 last month on a bulk-buy, I really should claw it back. I'll dig down in the freezer & see what I can find...Angie - GC Aug25: £292.26/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0
