I"m having another NSD. my kids are still off sick and I'm having a really bad flare up. I'm completely out of dishwasher tablets now and running very low on bread, cereal and yogurts so I'm going to have to go tomorrow.

Elsiepac:- I'm hard wired along the same lines but it's food with me. I have several freezers and panic if any are not full. It doesn't help you but I try to produce as much food as I can, veg, fruit, eggs, turkeys, lamb my Hubby also shoots and I hate waste so everything gets used.

Last month I got one of those 'Pockit' cards where you can't overspend. It worked well. At the beginning of the month I worked out my food/cleaning/toiletry budget and transferred that amount onto the card. When I go shopping I only take that card which really made me focus the mind as you can't spend what you haven't got on the card.

This month I've done the same and I've even reduced the amount I put on the card by £40. Yes, I could spend an awful lot more should I choose to do so, but what's the point, it's wasteful.

Everyone has to find their own way through their problems but this has helped me - having a finite amount each month.

Hi Thanks for running this list, while I probably came out top spender in August, this list is always in my mind and now that the holiday is over, the money is gone and it's back to work time - I just had 2 NSD days, I'm still on budget, and I have managed to do £40 + £10 ish weekly shops w top ups.
This weekend will be slightly over budget as I will so a medium shop for ds who's off to uni as well as a long drive. I will add the food to my grocery spending so I might go over after all.
Was having a panic today about filling freezer before Brexit, will probably start to throw in a few extra bits of tins and stuff for the freezer over the next few weeks, even if I think it's a scam.
    Anyways happy Thursday

  • Ooohh,it is a small world Elsiepac!I only live a few miles from the mall, and because I am terrified of city driving,it is my first port of call for shopping (usually birthday and Christmas shopping.

Taking photos of your stash is a good idea-I am a very visual person, and,as I mentioned the other day,I regularly take photos of whatever project I am working on.Just look at it when you hit the shops and start to panic. You can probably even work out how long your present stash would last, and that may help your panic. And I think two spares is absolutely fine.Good luck:A

  • I don't think I have really got the hang of this meal-planning malarkey :o.
I knew that, with the new term starting,I would be driving my daughter to ballet around teatime.Tonight there was another extra lift she needed, and by the time I was ready to go home,it was about 7.30pm-no time to organise too much for tea.So on the way home I went to Tesco, bought milk, eggs, bacon, bread (haven't had any for a few days because I forgot to buy a couple of days ago :o).
    Total £11.00

Morning guys, I've had a busy morning. Been to Asda and spent £9.14 then to Tesco and spent £17.32 followed by Lidl at £8.88. I spent a total of £35.35, but I did get snack and pack lunch stuff for the rest of the month and I have dinners for the rest of the month so actually I should be well under budget as all I'll need next week is milk, bread some fruit and maybe a box of cereal.

    £129.50 spent so far.

  • Hi all, I've just updated my total by a massive £95, spent during the week & this morning at the market - I'm really going to struggle to stay within my budget this month, with just over £84 left and two weekends to negotiate!

This weekend is DS2's 30th birthday and I have no idea how many I'm feeding on Sunday lunchtime, but it's at least 9. It's the fifth birthday in two & a half months & the overall finances are feeling the strain! But now there's a lull until mine in mid-December. We'll be 7 in the house for most of the weekend. However, stocks are high & we'll cope, one way or another.

Just been down to the allotment, and the beans are coming to an end now; a couple more pickings, I think, before we take those out. I brought home another massive butternut squash to finish ripening in the conservatory, so that a few of the smaller fruits can "get on" a bit. There's a big bowl of raspberries, although I ate rather a lot whilst picking, and yet more tomatoes to ripen or turn into green tomato chutney. And there are more apples than I could process in a month of Sundays, so I'm giving them away in carrier-bag loads. So, even if I'm fierce with myself & manage to stay within the budget, we're not going to go hungry...
