COMPAQ CQ58 laptop. Origianally W8 and now with W10 1803. After cloning to SSD laptop says "Selected boot image did not authenticate"
So went to BIOS and DISABLED Secure Boot.
Laptop refuses to see SSD.
BIOS is F.26. Guessing BIOS update?

BIOS update likely nothing to do with it.You can try a Hard Reset and then an F2 Diagnostic.
Turn the computer off.
Remove the power cable and the battery.
Hold down the power button for 15 sec while booth power sources are removed.
This should reset the hardware in the computer.
As you power it back on tap the F2 key. This will load hardware diagnostics.
Run the startup test.
This will test all the hardware in the system and detect any problems.
If all ok, you should just run a clean install of Windows 10 1903.0 -
Yer bizzare. I told neighbour they'd get back the same computer, just a bit faster :-) (and with 1903). Think I tried diagnostics - implied it didn't find the SSD (but I ignored it).
Will try clean install to SSD...just to see if it can see it!If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0 -

Don't neglect to switch it back to UEFI and Secure Boot before you begin.
Did you order them a caddy for their old HDD?
Delete all of the partitions on the SSD during the install0 -

I've had no problems going back to UEFI/Secure Boot with the original disk.
I wasn't going to get a caddy because the SSD was going to be a clone of the HDD. And I said it would be a 5minute job tonight...damn computers.
May give up tonight -beer and computers -a bad mix. I am still to prove that the laptop can see the SSD at all (e.g. clean install). Will stop now. Cheers. If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0 -
Have a look for this https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=windows+efi+boot+manager&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

It will, as long as there are no HW issues.
But delete those partitions.0 -

Upgraded BIOS from (Insyde)F.26 to F.29 and the damn SSD booted. Unless there's a dodgy connection (don't think so).
This is the first time I've needed to do a BIOS update to get a SSD to work (sample size not more than 10). Another beer...
EDIT: now doing an upgrade to 1903; I know a clean install would be better/quicker but I told neighbour it wouldn't look any different (and saves me tons of questions about why this/where's that...).
PS. the CPU in this laptop is shockingly bad (or its got another problem), AMD E1-1200.
EDIT2: I've just seen the CPU mark. Its 655. I should have said NO.If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0 -

two items to be careful off (1) the sector size of a rust spinner is 256 bytes, but ssd is 4k. (2) sector alignment, the wong alibment will hinder ssd performace.
Read this works MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition, also a restore works too. Paragon, aomei, easus and Macrium Reflect (free edition) etc apparently work
https://www.disk-partition.com/ssd-management/migrate-os-to-ssd-4k-alignment-0528.html
Personally always started from a clean install. Check the trim is set afterwards, as I am not sure during which part of the install this is turned on?0 -
