Eon chasing money I do not owe

Hello I want to describe my current situation;
I received a letter about a week ago from lowells debt collectors to say I owed £180 to Eon for a property I lived in 5 years ago. I called them to see what it was all about as it was on a pre-payment meter so couldn't see how any money was owed, they claimed that sometimes they look at the meter and add charges which I found suspicious. They claimed I was in the property for 2 years longer than I was in it for so I provided them with a copy of a tenancy agreement for the dates they claim, they wouldn't accept it as it was not signed which I don't see how its an issue but still.
After all of this messing about trying to gather proof that I do not owe this money I contacted the letting agency to provide evidence of when I moved in and out of the property, part of this was the email that the agency sent to Eon confirming I had indeed moved out of the property. I informed them at the time also.
Is this a case for harassment? Its wearing me down thinking someones going to come and rob my stuff for money I do not owe. I feel I should be compensated around the amount they claim I owe for all the stress and wasted time I've had to put into this. What should I do? Nothing seems to work by trying to deal with lowells and would much rather they take me to court so I can explain the situation to someone who will tell them to stop harassing me for money I do not owe.
What should I do?

    I think you should set out in a letter (old fashioned one, by post, sent signed for) that you believe they have received sufficient evidence that you are not liable for this matter and you will not be engaging further with them.

    Ask them to provide a final response in 8 weeks that you may refer to the energy ombudsman

    If they want to start a court claim they are well aware of the process.

    Proper compensation would require you to start a claim against them. I have seen it done but it was on a case where the claimant was being pressed for payment against a debt that was in someone else's name. Yes it was Lowell, and I think the compensation was over £1000. The question a judge would have to consider was whether Lowell's behaviour was 'reasonable'

    However, if an ombudsman sides with you, they may order an apology and a goodwill payment

    Are you sure this isn't a scam? It sounds very odd that they're trying to bill you for alleged usage more than three years ago, and PAYG at that, considering that they can't back bill for more than 12 months.

    Are the charges itemised correctly and if so, what are they? How are they asking for payment? It could be to a fraudster's account.
