    13 September Customer Reading 9192

Taking the two August readings - yes 2299 m3 = approx 25750 kwh

    at 2.7p is £695 plus standing charge £100 = £795 plus VAT = £835

Put 25750 into a comparison site and see what offers you get.

OVO's guess of £1146 is rubbish

PS 25750 kwh is high as is your Aug to Sept consumption of 50m3 = 616 kwh

    thanks for your explanation,

i am going to move from ovo , so would it be ok if used your calculation of £835 for gas in comparison site.
i know its only a few days left , but hopefully , they will keep me on same tariff until taken over, as previous supplier did when i switched over from them
    Nice to save.

Always enter consumption figures in kWhr into comparison sites, NOT amounts of money.

You now know what your annual consumption is and you want a price for that.

Perhaps it's worth clarifying why you feed consumption as a parameter into a comparison site.

If you enter a £ amount, the site has to reverse engineer that amount, using its figures for the tariff you've told it you are on (which could be wrong), in order to get a figure for consumption.

Apart from the fact that if you give it your direct debit amount it potentially bears no relationship to what you consume, there are so many points in the calculation that it could go wrong. All with the aim of getting a consumption figure that you already know in order to proceed with the main purpose of finding out how much suppliers will charge you.

It's a bit like going to a petrol station and asking "I filled up at the garage down the road last week for £55, would you charge me less?". Instead of asking "the garage down the road is 128.9p, what do you charge? ".

Sadly, shopping for domestic energy is not quite as easy because most suppliers charge a combination of a standing charge and a price per kWhr. So how much you use affects which supplier will give better value for you.
