Gas meter

I have a gas supply, with meter. However for reasons I wont bore you with I don't use any gas. But I keep getting stung with the Standing Charge for the meter. ( approx £30 pcm). I don't want to remove the meter, as I am told it costs approx. £80 just to have it removed. Also should my circumstances change to have it replaced would cost again. What are my options here? Any advice or information would be appreciated.

If its not a prepayment meter then I believe one of the suppliers who can apply a zero standing charge was Ebico , part of Robin Hood Energy when I used them for a vacant property a couple of years ago.
You do not want the meter removed. Charges will apply for possibly both removal and installation. Landlords in rented properties would need to be consulted for removal of a gas meter and they would certainly object.

I did a switch via a comp site but had to add the lowest possible annual kwh s it would accept (would nt accept zero ) to get a very low direct debit. This was soon reduced to zero when I added a couple of meter readings. They refunded the approx £5 they owed me when I sold the property. Contacting Ebico direct may have been a better idea.

Are your circumstances likely to change?
If not, then you may as well bite the bullet and get the gas dissonnected.

Otherwise consult any comparison site to find the lowest priced deal for you.
If it doesn't accept zero usage, use as low as usage it will accept e.g. 1kWh per year :)

£30 p.c.m standing charge? Surely not ! Or have Coutts started to supply gas?

Is there not an option to have the supply shut off but the meter left in situ? Failing that, a zero standing charge gas-only supply seems the answer, if anyone offers that.
