Gas Meters

For complicated reasons I won't bore people with, I am not using any gas, but I have a meter. I have to pay a "standing charge". Also, I am told I will be charged to have the meter removed should I decide to do so. But at some point I may well decide to reinstate the gas supply. Does this also mean I will be charged to have a meter put back in?
Does anyone know of a way around this? Failing that, who is the cheapest supplier for this "standing charge" only?

Go to Ebico, not cheapest for gas, but you do not use any so no problem.
standing charge with Ebico is zero pence, nothing, zilchGardener’s pest is chef’s escargot0 -
Yes.. and you will be charged for taking it out as well.As advised a switch to Ebico is your way.. I should do this myself as I own two houses ,one of which does nt use any gas and has nt all year though it has a very cheap tariff the standing charge is £1.89 a week..I m switching to Ebico myself any minute now !!This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Consult a comparison site to find the best deal for you
If you have the gas supply disconnected, it will indeed cost you a small fortune to have it re-connected0 -

I guess you could just put 0 and see if they say anything.0 -
Will they accept you as a customer once they realise you're not going to be paying anything?
I've never experienced a problem switching to any supplier that offers to charge you nothing if you use nothing.
In fact the CEC (as one example) will even allow you to filter results to only show suppliers & tariffs that offer zero standing charge if you want.
But my advice is not to filter any results out - list the lot and the cheapest for you will be at the top, zero standing charge or not. You don't need to use much gas foe Ebico not to be the cheapest, and last time I looked there were at least 4 electricity suppliers offering zero standing charge, and 2 of them were cheaper than Ebico if you did use anything (obviously if you end up using nothing, all 4 would cost you nothing)0 -

I just imagined that they might send you a letter telling you they don't want your custom once they've realised they're sending you a bill for nothing every month.0 -

My son has Ebico and pays about £10 a year usage, for just a gas hob.
There is no standing charge.
They will not give you any grief as a low user.
You will set it up on a direct debit, so it won't even cost them a stamp.0
