The Autotrader link isn't to the OP's advert, just some random other similar car being sold.

Parker's looks like around £3k on a 6 year old car with an original purchase price of £20k.

That's shocking depreciation. Cars really are a terrible investment, aren't they?

In general they aren't any sort of investment in a financial sense. Putting your money into a wasting asset isn't an investment.

They are the cost of certain benefits that individuals deem worthwhile.

I do not think that anyone on the planet would buy a brand new Renault Dynamique as an investment. No new run of the mill cars could ever be considered as such....maybe if you bought a brand new Ford Escort Mexico in 1970 and parked it in a garage for the last 49 years you would see a profit.

Cars aren't meant to be an investment for most of us. They're a convenient means for getting around that you have to pay for.

I was looking for an over-expensive Renault with no MOT the other day. No, wait.....

Arnold Clark do a car buying service, worth seeing what they would offer. I sold my mini there a few months back and was very happy with service and price offered

The photos are a bit poor as well, take more, better ones. As an example there's something hanging from the rear view mirror, and the state of the drivers seat, scuffed and stained.

Could be worse in 2009 I bought a 2004 car (a few weeks short of its 5th birthday) for just £2300, list price £20k but probably less as it was a fleet vehicle. Mileage higher than I normally buy at 145,000miles. But with a service history for many hours of bedtime reading.. Over £9000 spent in that 5 years. New tyres and brakes every 6 months and a new clutch just before I bought it.

I had the car for 6 years 180k miles and sold it to someone that put 60k miles on it in just 2 years and they sold it on and its still going strong.

Who did you buy it from? The Stig?

New tyres every 15k miles seems pretty reasonable, seems a bit high for brakes though.
New clutch after 145k miles seems pretty reasonable too.
