Top tip when receiving Bankruptcy Order

Hey guys,
I finally submitted my bankruptcy application on the 7th of August and received approval and a copy of the bankruptcy order on the 8th of August, very quick!
Previous to this I had only defaulted on my July payments, so just one payment missed! Some of the creditors were ringing my mobile between 10-15 times a day. As soon as I received my bankruptcy order on the 8th, I emailed it to the parties guilty of the bombarding of phone calls and from the 9th I have had no phone calls from them whatsoever.
For me, I have to have a face to face interview with the OR as I am self employed, but this quiet time has allowed me to collect information and most importantly my thoughts for the impending interview.
I urge anyone considering bankruptcy or just about to press the submit button to do the same :-)
Cheers

How long do u have to wait for your interview polly? Thats amazing its so quick. I'm completing mine now and have been carrying the debt around for 6 years and have built up a weird thing in my head about letting it all go?! Keep thinking they will judge us... Wonder why we havent managed our money better or pay the creditors more... My mind is on overdrive.
Congratulations for being brave and doing yours..... Wish u well for your interview. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I just hit the button tonight myself and hoping it goes through. I'm also self employed (did have a Ltd. which I will terminate) and have a few other things that I worry may make my BR more complicated, or abnormal. Look forward to staying in touch through this stressful, lonely, yet possibly relieving time.

You just made a huge step towards freedom, well done!
I didn't find being self-employed made anything difficult. They asked me for my last 2 year's finances (I think) which I supplied and then heard nothing again. I also had a retail lease which was surrendered a few months later (it had already been re-let).0 -
How long were bank account frozen for?
Basic accounts wouldn't normally be frozen, as they are designed for bankrupts anyway. Unless the bank in question is also a creditor, then it may be closed.
In my case Co-op were creditors (credit cards) so closed my current account. My basic account, with another bank, had been opened a few weeks before applying for bankruptcy so I'd have a seamless transition and no time with no bank account, and it was never touched.0 -
I submitted my application on the Thursday, had confirmation letter that I was bankrupt on the Friday, and my interview was I think on the Monday.0

Today (the day after I submitted) I received a bunch of questions from the adjudicator about my work, and a variety of questions about when I left England, why, and last residence etc.
I presume it may be a bit of a longer process for me (or I'll at least have more questions) as I have been living 6-8 months a year in Indonesia for the last few years and work remotely from there. It's cheaper to live there than London (where I lived for 16 years), plus it's beautiful and great quality of life for lot less.
To add to the confusion I applied in England and Wales as that was where my life was and where my work and clients are, but put a Northern Irish address down as I am currently staying at my parents.
I really hope it goes through and doesn't drag on too long so I'm trying to answer the questions in as much detail as may be relevant but also try to be concise!?0 -
My interview is only on the 28th of August which seems like a lifetime away at the moment. Most of the time I am ok and then i will get a wave of anxiousness, but I do suffer from anxiety and overthinking haha! Me and my husband were in a partnership so got a feeling it will be a bit more complex, but I will update as I go along!0
