Car Written off Then I moved House

Hi, This is a weird one and annoying...
My car was written off on the 24th August by another driver and on the 25th August i moved house.
The car was taken away by the motorway recovery people and i never saw it again.
I called my insurance company explaining that my correspondence address has now changed. They informed me that they can't cover me at my new address and as such the following was due...
The 10 months left to pay on the month DD in full
An admin fee for the change off address
A fee for cancelling the insurance.

I pointed out that the car was never and would never be housed\parked\registrared at my new address as it was written off the day before and i will never see it again.

Pure and simply, is this right?

Cheers

You will need to pay the full 12 months of direct debits, as that is technically a loan.
Admin fee for changes address is probably fair.
Cancelling fee because they can't cover your new address seems unfair though.

And although they are no longer insuring you, they should still pay out your claim for you on the terms of your insurance (ie, still providing a hire car if that's in your policy)

Am i stupid for wondering why i should pay for the rest of the years insurance just because the insurance company can not insure me at my new address even though i dont require them too?

If you make a claim, the whole policy for the year needs paying, not just the instalments that have been paid. The fact you have moved is irrelevant.

Even a non fault claim where the third party has admitted all the blame?

Why did you make a claim on your own insurance?

Why didn’t you make a claim on the 3rd parties insurance?

I didn't make a claim on my own insurance, i was pushed sideways down the motorway and spun around and the lorry drivers insurance admitted liability.
Now i have to pay the full 10 months and have my insurance cancelled as i moved house after the crash, even though my car was written off and was never and will never be registered there.

The fact that your car was written off and you moved are irrelevent, as stated when you insure a vehicle you pay for twelve months cover, they have loaned you the money that was due for the twelve months and allowed you to repay it monthly.

It is not the insurance companies fault that you have moved to a new address, as you have had two months cover and the insurance has to be cancelled the balance of the loan is now due.

Who decided that your car was a write-off?
Who are you making a claim from?
