OP - is there any chance you could knock on the door of the old flat and ask if you could read the meter (and take a photo) ? Perhaps write to them first explaining the situation - it will be in their interest to get it right as well. You may drop lucky and find the new occupier did things properly and even has a bill showing the reading when they moved in. If you do write then take time to make sure you use punctuation, paragraphs, capital letters ..........
Even so June 25 to today has only been a few weeks so a reading whenever you get it will be much better than the estimates flying around. Paying perhaps £25 for this and having a accurate bill you might well be better than the £591 you've been asked for.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
going to walk past the old house today and see if there is a new tenant. we also just realised that the first month she moved in and paid, it was an estimate of £21.92 and then the next month they took a reading and said the estimate was wrong, thats when we had to pay £111.68 for december... how does someone manage to use £111 in 1 month.
so we are going to call them right now, and ask the questions that we should aswell as see about getting an accurate reading. thanks alot, i'll let you know what happens with the call0 -
OP, as a meter reader I can tell you its very possible to get the meter readings the wrong way round in an Eco 7 (night storage heating ) property. When that happens the day and night readings get transposed and the result would be a highly inflated bill for people who use night storage heaters
.
If and when you get a look at the former bills pay attention to the price per KWH of the night and day rates. Night rate should be much cheaper than day rate, at least with Eon tariffs.Eon also charge 30 p a day usually, for daily standing charge
You can check how much you are paying per KWH on the prepayment meter to compare against other tariffs you see on a comparison website. The key prepay electric meters show all the info you would ever need on the meter itself.
Prepay meters are capped so it may not be more expensive than fixed tariff yearly deals.. All electric and gas meters are billed in pence per KWH so its easy to compare actual prices.0
