Twins! Top tips?

You WILL be able to tell the difference between them!
I have not given birth to twins but know several identical pairs closely,
I don't think I've ever got them mixed up.
Parent couldn't tell them apart to start with. She put bracelets on them, one on the left wrist and one on the right, just to be sure. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Nail polish on big toe …...different colour, different baby! Make sure it goes on baby's records who has each colour. That way, midwives and health visitors can be certain they are looking at one and not t'other.0

Parent also said short cuts are fine when you've run out of hands or your head is about to explode. We have a picture of the twins each with a bottle propped up on a cushion in front of them. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

On behalf of all parents, that’s OK whether you’ve twins, octuplets ir just the one. If a (safe) shortcut helps avoid your head exploding, use it!0

Please never do this! It is so very dangerous!0 -
I've got twin girls, having children close in age is nothing like have two babies the same age. Mine do everything within a week of each other. My best bit of advice is don't buy two of everything. If she's on fb i can't recommend the multiple mummies group enough and getting out to a local twin group. Any help you can offer will be very welcome most are born early mine were 36 weeks and have only just gone into 9-12 months clothes at 16 months, so don't buy to far in advance. Enjoy them my girls have such a special bound and it's truly unique and beautiful.0

There are three sets of twins in my close family!! Dodgy genetics!
Mine are 3.5 now and I'm still alive
1. Give them names starting with different letters. My twin cousins both have names that start with the same letter, and given the have the same date of birth things can get mixed up when letter arrives addressed to Miss L Twin. They HATE their post being opened by the other!!
2. Night time feeding is hard. If one wakes for milk, wake the other one up afterwards to feed, otherwise your sleep will be very broken. I remember getting so frustrated that the second twin wouldn't feed at 3am when they should be hungry, then realised I was feeding the same one again. Doh! Keep a pad of paper by the bed noting down which one fed and when.
3. Get a pram that fits through your front door! Great for a walk to make them sleep at the same time then park them in the hallway and put your feet up! (Or more realistically tidy up the carnage)
4. Find your local twins group. We have helpers at ours that cuddle babies. No one judges you when you're sealing with one child and the other is causing chaos - everyone automatically helps as they know what it's like.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
My cousin has twins, one of each, who have just turned 4.
Up until now they have got a present to share from me, I've observed them and now they are definitely ready come Christmas for individual gifts.
I've always called them by their own names.
You gave two three year olds one present to share! Brave woman!0 -
My sis has twins
As far as advice goes, this is more from something I once saw on TV. Make sure they don't allocate one baby to each parent. It sounds like something you'd not do, but it's surprisingly easy to end up doing it. When it comes to feeds, putting to bed, bathing or whatever, try not to have the same baby each time. They don't want them getting used to or attached to one parent more, or associating them with certain things (good or bad).
Also, don't be surprised when/if you find out they're individuals - people seem surprised when they're not exactly the same or similar lol. My sister's twins couldn't be more different to each other!2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0
