    We're currently house sitting in Spain but the plan was to live in Portugal (where we have residency). We're going back in a few weeks' time and plan to start house hunting in October. Just a little two-bedroom house, that's all. We are not materialistic people regardless of how some people have portrayed us on here.
    This story just gets better and better. It's keeping me off TMZ and the separation drama between Mylie and Liam.

    couldn't you book a lot of home appointments for your old address with double glazing salesmen, gypsy tarmac layers etc. Have some fun from a distance? :)

    Ignore the self righteous keyboard warriors thinking they know all there is know about everything. They have lived sheltered lives if they think your accepting £3k increase on the offer is somehow deep rooted in fraudulent tendencies. Or that someone would offer £3k extra to save £120 in stamp duty.
    It still remains that case that you will not recover any losses. Not cool that someone working in insurance industry would behave this way while completing a financial transaction!!!

    Don't think people are thinking that - but the taxman would see it very differently. In the same way people can no longer charge/offer to pay 1000s for second hand goods in order to keep the house price down. Not saying the OP has deliberately done it for that reason.

  • I did a similar thing when I wanted to speed things up a bit. No gazumping involved. For whatever reason my previous sale had completed before my purchase and I was staying with family in the interim. I offered the seller an extra £2000 if they could complete within six weeks. I didn't want to change the 'official' purchase price as it would have meant redoing all the paper work and the mortgage application, so we called it an 'early completion bonus'. Both solicitors were happy to do that given that it was such a piddling amount in the greater scheme of things. Yes - I 'dodged' a whole £40 in stamp duty, which I appeased with a donation to Cancer research.
