He has only had a joint account with me, he wanted his own account at the branch and it was then the trouble started the bank banned him from both opening a new account and banned him from joint account and told me it was giving me 14 days notice that the account had been closed.0

So they gave notice the joint account was being closed ?
Any incorrect data on his reports with the 3 credit reporting agencies ?
Have you considered an account from Monzo or Starling ?
Admittedly it wont give you access to a branch or try another bank.0 -
They blocked my partner straight away and gave me 14 days notice.
We are in the process of contacting the credit reference agencies0 -

It would have been better to have mentioned clearly relevant information such as this up front rather than drip-feeding - if your bank is closing your joint account, and all available evidence points to this being due to something done by your partner, then you need to find out what's happened, as it may affect you as well as him. What exactly did the letter say? What does he say? They blocked my partner straight away and gave me 14 days notice.
As well as the credit file checks, it sounds like it would be worth both of you checking out what your CIFAS status is (as suggested by cloud_dog above): https://www.cifas.org.uk/contact-us/subject-access-request
You didn't answer the question about where you heard the stuff about someone else with the same name and date of birth?0 -
OK how can I put this - did he get up to any naughty stuff in the country that he came from?
Banks don't just close or refuse accounts unless they have a good reason.
Go through the joint account statements for the last 2 years and see if there is anything on there which could be suspicious.0 -
defo looks like CIFAS. You need to check his CIFAS report as stated up then go from there0

The fact that the account was closed with short notice suggests that something more serious is going on - possible fraud/money laundering-related. I'd highly recommend getting copies of your reports from all 3 CRAs, as well as submitting a SAR to CIFAS and National Hunter. Check them for any anomolies (eg. applications you don't recognise, incorrect account details, etc).Once you have that information you can start to make a more educated guess at what is going on.
@OP - it helps us help you if you provide all the information up front. Do you have any more information relevant to your situation?0 -
Have you tried different banks? I've had accounts with basically everyone but Barclays has refused to open even a Basic account for me for years...never says why but I guess it's mistaken identity; no issue with barclaycardMortgage (Nov 15): £79,950 | Mortgage (May 19): £71,754 | Mortgage (Sep 22): £0
Cashback sites: £900 | £30k in 2016: £30,300 (101%)0 -

In the absence of clarification from the OP, this sounds like it could be a speculative example given by a member of bank staff of potential causes for a bad CRA record, which OP has latched on to as gospel.: )0 -

They said entirely speculatively :rotfl:0
