RBS tax residency letter.

I have received a letter from RBS wanting me to confirm my tax residency and send documents etc. However, I live and work in England and always have. It doesn't say what documents to send, only they need to be authorised.
I have a select account which I opened for the switching bonus and a savings account.
I have done a Google search and am receiving mixed results about whether it is a scam or not with some reports saying it definitely is and some saying it is definitely genuine.
My nearest branch is miles away otherwise I'd pop in and speak to someone there and I'm working long hours during the week which makes phoning during office hours awkward.
It says I need to complete the forms and return in the pre-paid envelope within 30 days but doesn't say what will happen if I don't. I have filled in the form ready to post but something about it feels a bit strange.

This is not a scam, it is a requirement as part of the Bank's compliance with FATCA and CRS regulations. You shouldn't need to send any evidence with the form, based on what you have told us.The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0

Just fill it in as best as you can - the bank are not allowed to help you fill it in and will advise you to contact an accountant or financial advisor.
When I got mine the only information they needed was my NI number.
Anything to do with USA I just put a line through or wrote N/A.

Yes I saw that one when searching, but when searching the phone number given on the letter and the return address I found old forum discussions about it not being real. I also wondered why they wouldn't email or send a letter via online banking. Or what it was about me that made them think I had overseas tax.
I can't imagine there's huge risk in sending my date of birth and NI number through the post though and this thread has reassured me that I'm probably worrying about nothing so I'll send it off.Debt Free: 01/01/2020
