Hi everyone. I was really hoping for some advice as I have am issue i really need to sort on my credit file for a new credit application I need to make.
In 2011 i entered a DMP. I was issued defaults from the creditors as normal. Those have all since been removed from my file after the 6 year period. However two creditors still remain. I am in a stronger and better place both financially and career wise, but the issues on my report are keeping us back.
Issue 1
The original creditor was Barclay and on my report they are saying the default was issued in 2015. They were part of my DMP and I have proof that they were part of it and receiving payments. On my file it looks like that have marked my accounts as partial agreed payments until 2015. In 2015 they then sold the debt on to collection agencies and that's when the default was entered.
I want to know if I can challenge this and what the best way is to.do that.
Issue 2
Following on from above, the two Barclay references are on my file, but then in addition the collection agencies who took over the accounts also have placed a default on the same accounts again in 2015.
So really for two debts I have them listed twice each on my credit report, both at the wrong times, but both really bad negative marks on my report.
So I wanted to ask what the best next steps would be? Do I contact Barclays and dispute the date they have? Do I need to go through an agency like ombudsman to help? For the two creditors (that have still not been settled) do I try a pay for delete and ask to settle if they remove the account from my file?
I'm not sure if pay for deletes work or if they above is the best approach, so I would really value your input and advice on this. As I said, it's a big issue for me at present and has the impact on my family as well, so I hope you can help.

Pay for deletes is a myth...so don't pay any company saying they can do that!
You want to ask Barclays to follow ICO guidance. They will do this by amending the default dates back to when the DMP began and you were 3-6 months in arrears of the original agreement. You need to make the request in writing, as a complaint. That way you can escalate the complaints to the ICO should Barclays not uphold your complaint.I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.
I love my job0 -
thanks. I wasnt sure about the pay for deletes.
I will contact Barcalys which will hopefully change the default dates. My only worry is that as its four listings, would I be better trying to settle the other 2 accounts?
I don't know if I settle them will it help my report, or should I just set up a repayment plan? Hopefully, with a potential move I would like to hold onto my funds for a deposti rather than repay in one go, but then if i did and it helps on my report I would be willing to do that.0 -
OK
I spoke to Barclay today and they said that the defaults should have been placed in 2011 when my DMP started. They are removing the entries from my report and have assured my this will also remove the two collection agency defaults on the report as well. I hope this is true but wont know until its completed.
They said it will take 4-6 weeks to show on my credit report. So here is hopng that it does remove all 4 entries on my report.
Thanks0 -
Just keep an eye on it, they said the same about an account of my husbands and it's still not showing after 8 weeks. Last updated at the end of June on CK so waiting on that to update and see if they've done it as promised.1

Just to help close the thread. All the defaults were removed eventually. Did take a lot of chasing and also raising an Ombudsman complaint, as despite Barclays saying they will be removed, the collection agencies didnt follow the order and let's just say, needed a stern reminder.
So all the defaults are gone and I have a clean credit report again 😃1
