I'm trying to buy a car at the moment. Having the reg number makes getting insurance quotes and vehicle history checks much, much easier, and tbh I'd avoid listings which didn't show the plate for that reason.
If someone wanted to clone a car number plate they can just look at cars in the carpark at their local Tesco. They don't need to look at pictures on the internet.0 -

Oh noes, I have my reg number on display twice! Once facing in front of me and once behind me, every where I drive and even when I'm parked. Literally everyone who sees my car can see my reg. What should I do to make myself safer?
Do you not see the small but glaring logical fault in your sarcasm?0 -

What am I missing0 -
I suggest a plate mis-read is far more likely that a cloned plate. Contact the ticket office as suggested and ask them to look at the photos. If they insist they are correct ask for a copy of the photos (they usually supply them via a link). Get it sorted out before the 28 day deadline for you to respond is up. If you are feeling particularly benevolent, stretch it out to beyond 14 days after the date of the allegation. That way, if it is a mis-read, they cannot prosecute the real driver as they will not have served a NIP within 14 days.:T0

As others have said my number plate is on display all the time0 -
Assuming the other details are the same as OP, clone may be more likely.
If it was a misread would it be the same make/model?
OP, is there anything distinguishing about your car? Stickers or damage etc?0
