Bizarre Speeding notice
I received a bizarre speeding notice informing me of the intention to prosecute by Bedfordshire police for driving at 67 in a 50 on the 31st July 2019. On the A1081 in Luton. At 11.08
I however live in West Sussex, have never been to Luton or indeed Bedfordshire in my life.
I, on the 31st of July was in Worthing, West Sussex which I travelled to by bus. My car was at home about 10 miles away from Worthing. No one has access to my car, I live alone.
It's my Reg and listed as a Skoda, but there is no possibility that it could be my car.
I really don't know what to do about it. Is it possible someone has cloned my reg? or the police have made a mistake?

It could as easily be a camera misread - e.g. a dirty number plate.
You MUST respond to the NIP ... but you do so to deny that your vehicle was the one involved and to request photographic proof that it was your vehicle. Include proof (e.g. witness statements) that you were elsewhere and could not have been driving.
Once someone actually looks at the photos they'll (probably) realise that the vehicle in question isn't even a Skoda. I imagine the issuing of the NIP is an automated process.
PS - are you 100% sure someone else couldn't have taken your vehicle whilst you were away? Absolutely NOBODY could have got hold of the keys?0 -
Plate misread is most likely (if OP is being totally honest).
I would call up the relevant ticket office and query the vehicle ID.0 -
^^Yeah I guess your right, at least I hope that's what it is.
It will have to wait till monday now but I can get a witness statement about where I was easily, my car however was sat on it's tod in my parking space though. I suppose i'm just fearful they won't believe me. Though like you've said it's hopefully just a error.
No, no one. I don't have a partner at the minute, no kids and no one has access to my home or car keys.0 -

If someone were to look at the photo they would see that its not your car so should believe you.0 -
Likely misread or cloned. Don't suppose it's up for sale or recently bought so plates would be in a photo somewhere?
It happens so don't panic too much.
I once had to explain that my vauxhall Carlton couldn't have been parked in Bristol at 4.30 and in a bus lane in London by 4.40.
Not even a lotus Carlton can do that lol.0 -
Cloning is a real possibility. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0
