Tesco Highview Parking Charge

I've received a parking charge for overstaying my welcome in the local Tesco. They offered me a £20 early payment fee and I entered an online appeal with Highview to advise I would be contacting Tesco.

I've tried to appeal to Tesco but no luck - they've helpfully referred me back to the parking signs and now gone quiet. I've advised them I'll be shopping at Sainsbury from now on!

Anyway I've now received an increased fee demand from Highview - although I received the parking charge on 3 August, 6 days ago. Having checked the original parking charge, I see its actually dated 15 July. I'm not sure how to tackle this - I'd have paid the £20 but I have no proof it wasn't received until 3 August. Any advice appreciated!

It's a little confusing did you appeal to Highview and if so did you get a POPLA code?
  • I followed the online appeal ink that they sent me - website was appealpcn and received a message saying:
Thank you for your appeal submitted via our website.
Further action on your Parking Charge Notice has been put on hold - please wait to hear from us.
We aim to write back to you within 14 working days, but certainly no more than 35 days after your representation is received.[/I]

Damn. Can you put what was in your appeal please?
  • I simply put that I was contacting Tesco directly about the charge...

appeal again using the blue text template from the NEWBIES sticky thread, appealing as KEEPER, no ticking any boxes saying DRIVER

Oh dear. Let's see if we can rescue this. I wouldn't normally do this but here is a link to the faqs known as the Newbies thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4816822/newbies-private-parking-ticket-old-or-new-read-these-faqs-first-thankyou

Send the template from the first post to Highview regardless of the fact you've already sent a botched appeal. Read the instructions first though. At worst you get a POPLA code. They may well cancel though.

Keep on at Tesco to cancel though. I gather they've become more reticent recently but keep plugging away.
  • Do as Redx and waamo say immediately.

HIGHVIEW always fold when they see the NEWBIES BLUE template.

Hopefully you didn’t identify the driver in your first appeal.
  • Thank you so much! Wish I'd found this site earlier. Much appreciated.

Nine times out of ten these tickets are scams so consider complaining to your MP.

Parliament is well aware of the MO of these private parking companies, and on 15th March 2019 a Bill was enacted to curb the excesses of these shysters. Codes of Practice are being drawn up, an independent appeals service will be set up, and access to the DVLA's date base more rigorously policed, persistent offenders denied access to the DVLA database and unable to operate.

Hopefully life will become impossible for the worst of these scammers, but until this is done you should still complain to your MP, citing the new legislation.

Just as the clampers were finally closed down, so hopefully will many of these Private Parking Companies.
You never know how far you can go until you go too far.
  • Highview dropped the charge after I sent them the template. Thank you!!!!
