Complaint to mortgage advisor

Hi guys
total newbie here wanting some advise
I'm thinking of complaining to our mortgage advisor (independent) after he dragged his heels with help to buy application and our completion date was moved to weeks hence we ended up 'homeless' and had to hire storage for our furniture etc.
We are now happily moved into our new home but he wants £295 for advise and for sorting out our mortgage. I'm reluctant to pay him since it was his fault for missing the deadline and having completion date moved. He says it was his first application and basically he wasn't aware there were any deadlines. He also e-mailed saying it wasn't his job to submit an application and he only done it as a good will gesture.
What do you guys think? Would complaining direct to them be worthwhile? I know £295 is not a huge amounf of money, but we ended up paying for storage + removals van+rent for 2 weeks
Any advise is greatly appreciated!

How exactly did the mortgage broker add months to the process? This is important as you would have to be something they did and something that was significant. A few days delay in application wouldnt be applicable. We are now happily moved into our new home but he wants £295 for advise and for sorting out our mortgage. Are you sure this is a real mortgage broker and not a ghost broker?
It is a mortgage broker's job to do the process from start to end. So, when he says its not his job to submit an application, do you know what he means by that?0 -

We put in an offer for the house when he was on holiday, upon his return he advised me as it was a new build we would have to go help to buy route as we only had 5% deposit. He asked if I wanted to submit an application myself or if i wanted him to do it - I asked him to do it as I thought 'sweet, it'll take some stress away from us'. It then took him 2 weeks just to submit an application, by the time we got ATP it was too late to request the funds from help to buy for our proposed completion date (which he said he wasn't aware of!)
What I'm most annoyed at is he offered to submit our help to buy application and then said he didn't really know what he was doing..excuses excuses0 -
Think it is the atp form that wasn't submitted rather than the mortgage applicationI am a Mortgage Adviser

very true - had one recently where it was the solicitors email address for the vendor - which I copied and pasted from their reservation form, changed that and sent it back. 5 days later they picked up that the reservation form had the clients address written very slightly differently. Another amended reservation form and another 5 day delay - absolute pain in the whatsits.I am a Mortgage Adviser

So, as others have said, it appears the application was ok but the ATP was the hold up. Are you sure it took him 2 weeks or was it being held up with acceptance (or returned for resubmission)?
2 weeks is not a long time with a mortgage. Was your target period perhaps a bit optimistic?0 -
