thanks so much for your help....

Have you considered getting rid of the telephone element of Virgin Media? You have broadband with them which you can used for VOIP, it will mean changing your phone number but would save you the rental each month and cut the call charges dramatically.

I have an Analogue Telephone Adaptor attached to my Modem/Router from this I have 2 dect phones, one with a number for incoming calls from Sipgate, this will cost you a one off £10, their calls charges are relatively expensive at 1p a minute so I have another provider VOIPcheap who do not provide a number but charge €12.50 for 90 days of free calls to landline numbers almost worldwide, are cheaper for calls to mobiles (8cents/Min) once the 90 days are up calls to landlines are 1cent/min, so my total call bill for the year is about €37.50 (about £27)

That will save you about £530 a year less a one off cost for the adaptor of about £45

    Hope that helps

Might be available on the NHS.

ras - i will try work in months for you - thanks so much;-

incoming: £880 a month carers, etc (how do you work it ras?) + £245 d.l.a = £1125.00 a monthCould hubby do surveys online, do click throughs on cash back sites etc? This would add a bit to the pot. Does the carers allowance include day and night rates, if you have to be on call 24/7?

    outgoings:

£80 a month gas/elecis the gas and electric on meters because you are in arrears. If not then you can ask to pay by direct debit and it will be a bit cheaper
    £32 a month water
£320 month food/toiletriesHow many is this for? I spend £250 approx on feeding 2 adults, 2 children and 2 cats. The key for me is that I meal plan for the week ahead, check what is in the cupboards so I don't buy stuff I don't need, and then do the shopping list from this. It saves me a fortune. Also ref online shopping. You can save money by getting discount codes off this forum for most stores. It also doesn't tempt you with things you don't need as you only look for things that are on the shopping list.
£40 month taxissee above ref going to the GP. If you really can't face him/her yet, then is there a dial a ride in your area? If your partner gets DLA you might be able to use the service. Your local social services may well have the number. Or maybe you could ask the taxi firm for a regular user discount? If you don't ask you don't get!!!
£40 month top up shop for freezerSo in total you are spending £360 a month on food. See my comments above ref this.
£16 month life insuranceIf you have no mortgage do you need this?
    £10 month house insurance
£100 virgin a monthThis is really really high. Do you have top of the range broad band? Or top package tele? Could you down grade either/both? I thought that virgin did a 3 for £30 package, would this be helpful to you?
£24 papers a monthVirtually all papers can now be read online for free, could you OH manage that?
£24 partners physio (a treat having a meal out lol)Have you looked into whether he can get this on the NHS instead?
£20 a month washerHow long is left on these? Will it be paid off soon leaving you with a bit more money?
    £20 a month fridge
£240 provident a month - doesnt say apr on card but will find outThe APR will be horrendous. How long left on this and for how much
£60 overdraft loan to bank a month - will find out apr
£80 hamper a monthIf you have been saving since last xmas then this would be £880 surely this is more than enough. Could you not pay Decembers?
£10 a month jd store card
    £15 a month aqua card

forgot about my hamper for christmas and the 2 store cards.... but, as you will see i never have enough.....

Sorry if this seems a bit harsh, but I hope the suggestions are helpful. I do not know whether you can do a debt management plan on this sort of benefits, but you could call CCCS or Payplan (links at the top of the forum), to talk to them about it.

Also, whilst I don't want to pry, is there a chance that your OH will recover enough to return to some form of work, or to let you go out to work?

  • Choice catalague dispute. In 2004 I returned goods. During their delay they added on a load of charges. Summer 2009 they have sent bailiffs to my previous address. I want to dispute their charges and stop the bailiffs going to innocent neighbours. What letters etc must I send now? URGENT. New to any type of forum so dont know how this works.

    hi

try to start a new thread - go back to the front page of the forum and hit the new thread button on the left hand side.

I seriously doubt if this is bailiffs, as there is a lengthy court procedure which would have produced a lot of docmentation.

More likely they are debt collectors who have no legal powers using the frighten the debtor tactics of embaressing you.

Is there any letter from this lot that confims their name and certification.

Is additions a catalogue? If they are then they have no intention of taking you to court. Catalogues do not ask you to sign a credit agreement before you buy goods. Without a signed credit agreement the debt is unenforceable through the courts - although since April this year new catalogue debts can be enforced although the company have to ask the court's permission before they can enforce. This letter just sounds like a frightener to me

I agree. I've had these guys on my back for ages with the same types of letters. Payplan told me not to worry about it, as i am paying them something each month. So far, they've done nothing more but write there 'scary letters'.
