Market stall put new battery in watch - cost £10. Given guarantee for 3 years. Watch stops working within 10 hours. Shop refuse refund as battery ok - watch not ok. Surely they should not have put battery in if watch not working. Can I get a refund.

Don’t really understand what the issue is
    Watch had stopped
Got battery fitted and watch worked
    10 hours later it stopped
Fitter checked battery and it’s ok
    So watch is now faulty

So unless fitter broke the watch, he’s done nothing wrong and OP is not due any refund

    It’s all basic common sense

In my town a shop has a sign in the window that says 'Watch batteries fitted'. Why anyone would want to watch batteries being fitted is beyond me!
    I agree. I suspect it's terminally dull.

    I'm positive it would be.

    Check how much they charge.
  • I had a battery replaced in my watch a few years ago, by a local jeweller's shop ( F Hinds). They wanted £7 for a new battery, but for £10 I could have lifetime replacements. Of course I went for that, and have had 3 or 4 "free" replacements. They even fitted a new seal last time with no charge.

    Don't be so negative.
