    thank you for you reply.

I hope so... I have a good credit score never had any problems getting credit/ mortgages in the past and are usually really careful with stuff like this... but i am now just having terrible thoughts that this is going to haunt me in the future and stop me being able to apply for further mortgages etc and i will be in the 'tick if you have ever been refused credit box' category!

Will i have to declare this on anything in the future?

You’ll probably see that “good credit score” drop as a result of the search and (eventually) when your new account with Vodafone opens.

But fear not since it’s not real and not a thing that lenders use or see.

It’s rare that applications offer a “tick if you’ve ever been refused credit” option - I haven’t seen one of those choices for many, many years

There’s no need to declare anything.

It’s just one search on your credit file.
  • Hi, thank you for your advice

it was the month I got wrong by mistake.. the year and day was correct.

I think i will wait a few months before trying again just to be on the safe side :)

Can I ask why you’re worried about the searches? Unless you’re applying for something important soon (mortgage etc) then they don’t really matter.

    Paranoia.

    ...........
  • I didn't realise it would come up just as a search to be honest not massively clued up on the whole thing .... i thought it might show up as something negative which i wouldn't be able to remove from my credit history and would effect me in the future when applying for future mortgage, bank accounts etc

basically... i used to work in an estate agents with an in house financially adviser and the amount of people which would have problems getting a mortgage for small things in their past was quite a lot
  • Then you should know that CRA credit scores and ratings aren’t a real thing used in lending and that one search will have minimal impact.

It is understandable that people get over cautious about their credit worthiness. We are faced with adverts dozens of times a days saying that you have to protect or improve your credit score, sign up here, check it and watch it improve. It is all very misleading. (Although I do find the one with the dog very funny) When you have individuals concerned over the impact of one search on their file and how it may impact a mortgage application it is clear to see just how much people are being mislead.

You do not need to 'work at' protecting any kind of score. All you need to do is run you finances responsibly, live within your means and history takes care of the rest.

An in-house advisor will be lacking the expertise of a proper mortgage broker. They will also have access to a (very) limited number of products and lender. In that case maybe some small glitch in someone's history may give problems with a mortgage application but if they used a, dare I say it, proper mortgage broker a minor issue will not be any barrier. Perhaps this may have given you a unrealistic impression.

Have you now taken a contract with Vodaphone ? If they are happy that it was a genuine error then one extra search will not be a problem. The problem will be if they flag that application as fraudulent.
