How about reading a book or listening to music through earphones? Just alternatives to films for the short time you are in the air.0

iPad all the way - the retina screens deal with glare very well. I watch movies in the garden in full sunlight with no problems.0

With the iPad, you can buy the AV Player app that will play any video format.
If you're using Netflix you can also pre-downloads movies or shows to watch when you're on the plane. Would not suggest getting an iPad smaller than 64GB - mine's 128GB and it's ideal.0
