Tablet for Planes

Hi All
I am a disabled retired pensioner and through my medical conditions hate the cold weather in this country, so my wife and I try to get away from the winter climate in this country.
We find that the airline that we most use is Jet2 but they do not have in flight movies like alot of the others to cut costs. So I bought a kindle fire 7, we had the misfortune of being put in seats where the window blinds were missing, when I tried to watch a movie that I had loaded into the Kindle fire I could not see a thing in fact I could see my face on the screen better than the movie so I gave up.
Does anyone know of a good 10in tablet that does not suffer from glare on the screen in brightly lit situations, it obviously must be capable of storing movies and have a good battery life.
Kind Regards Ken

If the Kindle Fire on maximum brightness (I assume you turned it right up?) wasn't enough in those specific conditions then I don't think anything else will be. You're not going to get a tablet with a screen that's brighter than the sun. Some airlines order planes without window shutters at all. You can get matte screen protectors that you stick onto the tablet which will reduce the sharpness of any reflections but isn't going to make for a very nice viewing experience overall.

Maybe there's a market for a portable black-out blind that sticks onto a plane window?

    don't sit next to windows?

Take a piece of black paper and sellotape with you?
  • Hi,

maybe one of these would help, cheaper than new tablet.

I've experienced the same on a train. Now I just sit in an aisle seat and no further problem. Certainly the most cost effective solution!

and a few bits of Blu tack should work.
The fabric will take up next to no space in your bag and the Blu Tack won't damage or leave any residue on the aircraft trim and it could be removed in a second or two so hopefully the cabin crew wouldn't object.

That doesn't always work. I remember coming home on one flight and we were on the right side of the plane and the sun was setting on the left hand side, and the light was shining right through the left side windows and onto my tablet. This lasted for a good half an hour or so and was very annoying, but it's just the chance you take when flying I guess.

The guy behind this site reviews a huge number of tablets and laptops and seems to actively respond to questions in the forum so may be able to recommend something for you.

The focus is on Chinese stuff that you'd have to get via sites like Gearbest or Banggood but he may be able to recommend something that's available in the UK.

I have a hp 7" stream tablet. i only used it for 1 day in hospital. The idea was to stream films while I was in there for 4 days, but I found that after holding that thing in the air for a few mins my arms got tired and I never even managed watch one film in its entirety.

To take the glare off, possible a sheet of newspaper and blue tack, or duct tape should suffice, as they are only small windows.

    Hi,

what about something like this made out of cardboard so as you could fold down for carrying.

You would make big end to fit over tablet and viewing end to suit your eyes/glasses. :)
