Couple of days Car hire in Majorca

Options
Going to Majorca in September and thinking of hiring a car for a couple of days only. Cant hire in advance as I want to play it by ear and hire when it suits at the time. All I hear is terrible stories of getting ripped off by hire companies and it has happened to me. Few years ago I was in France and had a car from Europcar. I left the car back in pristine condition. The guy went round it with a fine tootghcomb but couldnt find any damage. He looked annoyed. Then a couple of weeks after getting home I found my credit card had been charged for £80 with a speeding fine. Lies of course, but puts you off wanting to hire. Is there any trustworthy hire companies in Majorca, particularly Cala Dor that can hire a car for a couple of days without the hassle?
I started out with nothing......And still have most of it left:p

    How do you know that?

There may be small rental outfits local to where you will stay in Majorca.

My OH used ok rent a car, just make sure you make a video when you collect the car. Ok rent a car charges 50€ if you received a fine.

Did you receive or ask for the official penalty notice? If you're confident that you didn't exceed any speed limits did you challenge it with Europcar?

  • Please stay away from Avis. I hired a car from Avis and had no problems until I got home and was charged £262 for insurance despite telling them we had our own insurance. I am unable to claim this back as I had signed there form to take the car. There was a section on there form that didn't get crossed out by them saying we had our own insurance.

A nonsense post. Millions of people use them and yours is the only post mentioning this.
    I ran a Google search and found...nothing.
So why should people avoid them, on the word of someone who has made but one post on a forum?

If you want to play it by ear and hire in the resort then your best bet will be trying a couple of local companies who have offices in resort. Often these smaller local companies are friendly and won’t try and scam you - or at least far less likely to than the big players at the airport where the “creative” charging loopholes seem almost systematic (not all operators obviously - but some).

Have a look on the trip advisor forum for Cala Dor and see if there’s any recommendations on there.
