Lodger (house guest) Nightmare

How old is this child? I doubt he's his mums responsibility either0
-
Take him to small claims court and get a CCJ against him. Then he really will have a problem finding somewhere to live and his mother will have to take responsibility for the way he behaves. I assume that you are no longer friends with his mother. Friends don't foist their badly behaved children on you.
Not sure he's a child. Not his mothers responsibility either.0 -

Get a CCJ for what? He was more a house guest than a lodger, and without any formal agreement or other proof then the OPs changes of winning anything are remote. No proof of who broke any cups (for £20 what were they made of) , and a direct debit going up might be because OP had previously been underpaying.
I'd say let it go. Some things aren't worth the stress if you have little chance of getting anywhere. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
I would actually take great pleasure in a wee carpet poo, given I’ve been !!!! on myself! Lol0

Thanks to everyone for the comments. I actually had a surprise visit this evening from him & his parents. They have agreed to cover the cost of cleaning, carpet cleaning & his unpaid bills. I’ll not hold my breath though until money is in the account. Would have been nice to know this earlier, as I’ve spent hours cleaning since Sunday

I actually work with his mother so it’s been a bit of an awkward few months, but thankfully I’m not in the office a lot.
As pretty much everyone has said, it’s a massive lesson for me & it’s ended up costing me a lot (locks were changed on Sunday night). I’ll definitely not be taking in anyone, anytime soon!0 -
I wonder his mother can look you in the eye at work, given the total slob she has spawned. Is she in a position to fire you? Is that why you took this for so long? Still no excuse.
You behave like a door mat, people will wipe their feet on you...0 -

Did anyone in that family visit apologise to you for the damage and bad behaviour? Offering to pay for everything is good but I think an apology is in order as well.0 -

They were solid gold, encrusted with diamonds. And don't forget the £80 kitchen bin too, it was hand carved marble.0 -

And? Just because there are mugs in Home Bargains for £1, doesn't mean everyone wants or has those. Good quality stoneware costs money. Go on JL website and you will find plenty of mugs/tea pots for more than £20 each.0
