If he can drive a manual car and then it's just a case of doing the same thing with different limbs and shouldn't be too difficult. If not, it's probably harder than driving a car for the first time as you have the added potential to fall over. The gears are easier than a car though.

Even now, I long to re-do my CBT, pass my test, and get a lovely Harley Sportster :D
    .

    No, get a motorbike.

Thank you for all the feedback. I've got him learning the highway code at the moment and will be booking him in at end of month, so sounds like he'll be fine.

He will be given a personal trainer in a small group of around 4 other learners. He will have to display a basic knowledge of The Highway Code and traffic signs. If he doesn’t appear to have a general knowledge or turns up not wearing suitable clothing the training can be stopped and he can be charged to take it again.

There are 5 parts to the course: introduction and eyesight check, on-site training (class-room), on-site riding (maintenance of bike, balance/control, operation & braking) controlled off road area)), on-road training, on-road riding. He will only move from one part to the next when his trainer is happy he has:
learnt the theory and shown the practical skills to a safe basic level.

The CBT is a test of the general fundamentals needed to ride a powered vehicle (moped/scooter). A full test is needed within 2 years. It will not allow him to carry passengers and he must display L plates.

You must remember the CBT is just to acquire a basic skill level. It will not make him fully competent or completely safe. If he has the right attitude he will continue to learn and gain experience each time he rides.
