Freezer door left open, now not working!

Help! Our Blomberg freezer door was left open for some 30 hours over the weekend. On discovering, I closed it but it still wasn’t freezing. After doing some general googling (as you do) I figured it was because the eveperator coils had excessive frost build up which would cause it not to cool properly. So I removed the inside back panel to discover they were indeed all frosted.

We unplugged the freezer, removed all contents into next doors freezer (lovely neighbours) and left it open to defrost - not long in this weather! After about 5 hours we plugged it back in and it seemed to be buzzing away again as normal, so we went to bed.

However this morning it’s gone completely dead again and the freezer isn’t very cold. I’m wondering if I didn’t leave it long enough to defrost?

Called the manufacturer as it’s still under guarantee but they can’t send an engineer till Tuesday!

Anyone have any suggestions? Obviously we’re without a fridge too while it’s unplugged! Thanks

I think you need to leave it for at least 24 hours, possibly 48.

24 hours was my first thought, too. I would try defrosting it once more and give at least 24 hours.

No, just leave it. It'll also be a good idea if you get a couple of fridge thermometers, one for the fridge and one for the freezer to make sure they are getting to the correct temperature.

Thanks, I’ll leave it for a good 48 hours and then hope for the best!

If it has been left for 30 hours or more with the door open it will have been running flat out and could 'possibly' of overheated causing a thermal cutout to work.
This once happened to me but after resetting the cutout it would only then run for a day or so before it cutout again....the damage had been done .

Ahh I see thats not what I wanted to hear! And sounds like that’s what happened last night! The door was only open ajar I might add but not sure this makes any difference!

Did you need to get a new one? Was it covered by any guarantee?

As you're the one that caused the fault, if one exists, don't then expect it to be covered by the warranty and/or your consumer rights.

So you think defrauding the manufacturer or retailer is the correct route?
