Starling Bank opinions...

Do you work for Starling? Seems a strange reply if you don't! I fully accept that any business is perfectly within its right to turn me down (that's capitalism); however I do think when a business is specifically advertising to attract my business, and then rejects it, it is merely professional to give a reason. Were I to refuse to do business with someone replying to my advert, I would have the good grace and professionalism to tell them why.colsten said:
As a high net worth individual and HR tax payer, you are no doubt aware that any business is as free as you are to choose who to do business with, without justifying the decision. For some reason, Starling don't want to do business with you.SidT said:Just applied to Starling for a business account and was turned down, apparently randomly - Starling refused to give any reason for this (instead referring me to their generic T&Cs). I am a homeowner (no mortgage), an additional (45%) rate taxpayer and meet the definition for a high net worth individual for non-property assets. Perhaps Starling have over extended - either way I am appalled by this level of service and arrogance and am not used to being treated so contemptuously by what purports to be a serious financial institution.
Perhaps they chose the name Starling because they like to deposit nasty stuff randomly on people's heads from a great height. If this is the future of banking the we are all in serious trouble . Steer well clear to avoid damage to your reputation and credit rating!
Your reputation is not affected if your application for an account gets rejected, as the result of the application is between you and the financial institution only. You also don't need to worry about your credit record as an application for a credit account makes only a marginal, temporary, difference to your credit worthiness.
Starling have over 2m customers now (don't know how many of them are business customers) - they have not acquired them by "depositing nasty stuff randomly on people's heads from a great height". I could understand, though, if they weren't interested in customers who make such suggestions.
As for your comment on my joke, perhaps you could develop a sense of humour (unless, of course, that is contrary to Starling policy!). Perhaps they anticipated my making this joke/comment and turned me down just in case.....0 -
Bizarrely, after turning down my application for a business account and refusing to give a reason why, Starling have invited me to apply for a personal current account with them.
The term 'cowboys/girls' doesn't being to cover it! Is it just me or is this grossly inappropriate?
I reiterate - steer well clear!0 -
LOL, "you must be working for them" is the stereotypical response to anyone who doesn't condemn a company.SidT said:

I have said what I have to say on the matter but if it helps you: I am not working for Starling, and never have. I don't even know anyone who works for them. And no, I don't have any financial interests in Starling, either. I do, however, have personal GBP and Euro accounts with them and have no complaints. Aside from all this, I wouldn't want to do business with you, and I won't go into the reasons why not.4 -
What made you conclude that there's any randomness involved?SidT said:Just applied to Starling for a business account and was turned down, apparently randomly
Are you under the impression that any bank explains their specific reasons for declining applications?SidT said:Starling refused to give any reason for this (instead referring me to their generic T&Cs).
And no, I don't work for them either....4 -
If I was Starling I wouldn't want to do business with you either going off your attitude here.SidT said:Just applied to Starling for a business account and was turned down, apparently randomly - Starling refused to give any reason for this (instead referring me to their generic T&Cs). My review was genuine so are there 999 other that are all 'money launderers' - why not just pull a couple more stats out of the air!penners324 said:About 99.99% of negative reviews on trustpilot and elsewhere are from money launderers. So Starling bank have rightly frozen their accounts.
I've used Starling to go to Sri Lanka and didn't have a problem.
If you're that concerned only transfer over what you need for a day or 2, then transfer again a day or 2 later.0 -
Presumably you are having difficulty with the fact that other have had a negative experience. I hardly think my attitude after the event has any bearing whatsoever on their decision. Strange that you should be naïve enough to not understand this simple timeline.Deleted_User said:

When I advertise my business and people come to me, I will be sufficiently professional to allow them (like you) to have an opinion that I do not share. No wonder our economy and politics is such a mess.0 -
