ATMs in Bali

I'm going on holiday to an island off Bali where the (4) ATMs are well known to not always work so cannot be relied upon.
Last time I took cash from my M&S credit card because I read Bali was a bit dodgy which might have been incorrect ???
It was 9% on the way out and 12% returning the change, which I though was pretty appauling on the M&S preferential rates for an M&S credit card.
We don't need a huge amount of cash but obvious some is needed for tips or drinks.
I have a clarity card and intend to withdraw cash charged in local currency at either the airport or the next day in South Kuta which sounds like it has facilites before going onto the island.
Does anyone have any advice on using ATMs in Bali, specfically at the airport or advice against?
I still have the option of getting cash beforehand if necessary but it's more expensive.
If push came to shove I expect the resort staff would help us to get cash especially if they want tips, but obviously don't want big stress on holiday and our resort isnt neceesarily near a bank/town.
Thanks in advance for any local knowledge.

Ask a board guide to move your thread. This is a sub forum discussing a now defunct company called Crown Currency Exchange which screwed a lot of people out of a lot of money.0
