Be lots easier if your bank had transaction notifications. Then you'd see the notification pop up just after the payments were made....
  • Seems a bit rotten to me.

Over ten years ago, I "remember" phoning the bank saying that there was a payment I didn't recognise. I was told,, "It's for this" and I thanked them, saying I now recognised the transaction and sorry for bothering them

I'd rather things still worked like that but do new-found "freedoms" mean we don't get that level of service any more?

Quick update - my Son has just identified the payments for me - it's a local art gallery/cafe - he was even there with me at the time! It just goes to show how easy it is to lose track without receipts; normally I'd have them and wouldn't have had all the angst.
    Thank You for the support.

That's what I love with Starling (Barclays and i believe some other banks are offering it too) - you get a location attached to each transaction.

Last month I was putting all my bank accounts in Moneyhub and encountered a transaction for £1700from 6m ago which i didn't recognize on my Starling account. Looked at the location of the transaction and I have never been there, zoomed the map and discovered it's the Ebay HQ. Light-bulb moment - it was something that I bought on my brother in law behalf a while ago from e-bay.

When doing family history a while back if you ordered birth or other type certificates from HMG's online portal the cost appeared in your credit card as HM Passport office - not exactly very helpful - and which caused me a few minutes of angst until I realized what it was.
No idea if that is still how it comes out as its some years since I've ordered a cert'.

Really pleased you got to the bottom of it - this is one of the reasons I exclusively use Apple Pay now for smaller transactions. It tells me when, what time and to whom the payment was made.
