It's not clear what you expect to learn from reviews of banks, when you're looking for a savings account but here goes
I've been a customer of Co-operative bank for well over 40 years. I've never had any problem big enough to make me change where I hold my 'main' current account, though I have multiple accounts elsewhere. They rarely offer market leading rates. Britannia savings accounts have always been operated efficiently by post (and in branch by my late sister)
I've no experience of Sainsbury's bank so can't comment
I have a Post Office Savings account which I operate online. I have not had any problems depositing or withdrawing money, but there are many threads spanning several years, detailing problems experienced by lots of posters. Their feedback on customer service is highly critical. Most regulars on here would not use PO savings accounts if they need speedy access to their savings.
Does that help?0 -
Look at splitting it down.
Nationwide Flexdirect will give you 5% upto £2,500 for a year etc...0 -
Co-op (including Smile brand), been with them for 35 years (having originally had no say in the matter). They're ok, never felt compelled to go elsewhere (obviously not a serial switcher). Obviously nearly went to the wall a few years ago and took the whole Co-op group with them but seem to be stable now! They rarely offer market leading rates but they're ok. The account you're thinking of (if I'm correct) can be opened online but not subsequently managed that way.
They seem to have regular web/app issues from what I see on the Twitter feed (unexpected downtime or scheduled maintenance taking longer than suggested) but it's rarely impacted me in practice. Won't be a problem if you're going for a non-online account.
Sainsburys - ok from my limited experience (opened then renewed a fixed term deposit) but seen negative comments elsewhere. See how it goes when I want my money back at the end of the current fixed term.
Marcus seem fine in terms of account opening though not taken any money out yet. Some people seem to feel their faster payments could be faster.0 -

No problem with Marcus for faster payments Monday to Friday. The weekend is slower. I am very happy with Marcus.
From Marcus Help Section
If you’ve transferred money in over the weekend, it can take until the end of Monday to show in your account depending on when we receive it. Similarly, if you send the money outside of your linked account provider’s business hours, the transaction can take a little longer to show in your Marcus account.
Payments from your Marcus account to your linked account are usually made within two hours and at the latest by the end of the following business day."Look after your pennies and your pounds will look after themselves"0 -

Hi, thanks everyone for the advice. It's a sizable amount of money & been sitting in a 'safe' (in my mind) place. I'm not a big risk taker & only have a little knowledge of the finance world so just wanted to check.0
