Went a few weeks back, stayed at Cavtat outside Dubrovnik. Not cheap in that area, but Croatia is on my go back to list. Plus other parts of Croatia. Plus a probably detour into Montenegro.
No real beaches where I was, but lots of places to get a sunbed and swim off the rocks. Which was a bonus as fewer children. :)
Might help if you were more specific about what you wanted to know.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • Went in June. Loved it. As has been said, not as cheap as you probably expect but really high standards of accommodation and food in our experience, and the 'beaches' are great - loads of chairs to rent, or just put a towel down, proper steps in to the sea, changing facilities and showers everywhere. You won't miss the sand!

Planned to visit Dubrovnik and Split. Only for 1 week, is it easy to find budget or mid range accommodation nothing fancy just a bed to sleep. It will be mid August so peak season. Going to travel very light with only a very small backpack to carry on the plane. Are mozzies a problem? Are ATM and wifi easily available? Is it advisable to take some euros or pounds in notes? I usually use ATM to withdraw local currency. Thanks

I did a package deal staying HB (included as much alcohol as you wanted with your evening meal) at Istra Hotel, Rovinj, which I'd highly recommend. We were on an island, which would be an ideal place to stay if you wanted to get away from it all. There was a free ferry to the mainland every hour. The bakeries were cheap on the mainland, you could get a baguette for a few quid. We got the bus to Pula & Porec too. Apart from the hotel I didn't really rate the place. Although we enjoyed the holiday.

As a family we have just come back from Cavtat. We all , teenagers included, loved the place. Dubrovnik is expensive it caters for the visiting cruise ships.
Food has Italian influences. Prices slightly cheaper than home. They don’t use but will accept Euros, we used Khuna and credit cards
No beaches as such in Cavtat but we managed to find a quiet inlet. Take thick swim shoes as sea urchins are everywhere.
Life is like a bath, the longer you are in it the more wrinkly you become.

Lots to see & do in southern Croatia, we're revisiting Dubrovnik soon. Advise checking cruise schedules in Dubrovnik for your proposed dates, it is ultra-popular and old city will be overrun on days when you have 3, 4, 5 or even more ships arriving.

I suppose it might depend where you travel to. I did a multi-centre trip flying to Trieste, Italy for four nights and then getting a bus to Rovinj, Istrian Peninsula for 4 nights. Went two years ago so before extra costs for Ryanair cabin baggage but the flights were approx £17 Stansted to Trieste with Ryanair and approx £13 with Easyjet from Pula to Gatwick. Couldn't fly direct to either place for that low a price as Ryanair were cheap out/expensive back and Easyjet the opposite. Coach was approx £13 Trieste to Rovinj. Went in September 2017.
