Amex to Visa Payment

Hi was just reading your post. I hope get it sorted0

That would count as a cash transaction on the Amex which will incur fees and a daily interest rate until paid off.
If the Amex even authorises it since cash transactions/withdrawals are blocked by default.
What if you pay £1000 onto your Amex, then buy the prepaid Visa? Should only be a couple days interest if at all?0 -

Because putting the card into credit is against the T's and C's.
And I don't think Amex allows a manual payment to be made onto the account that is more than the balance owing anyway.
Plus you don't earn cashback/points on a positive balance spend so it would be an entirely pointless exercise.0 -
Hi all,
I have to be honest I don’t even get the cash back lol
I took this Amex Platinum out because because my annual Oyster card was about to finish so thought it was an opportune time to take out the Amex. I also wanted to buy this item and thought I could pay via Amex but actually I couldn’t, long story but an advisor accepts Amex for small items but the actual item is supplied by a company who doesn’t. Lesson learnt lol
So thanks for all the ideas but no Amex definitely won’t allow payment in advance
An option would be to withdraw the cash but that’s 3% so £33 for my foolishness lol ... just no point. So it’s okay I’m going to get my Christmas prezzies now haha
Again thanks, I knew you guys would be able to help me but unfortunately I obviously have to buy the item via my debit card and desperately try to reach the £4K threshold some other way! To be honest the changes Amex have made have not made it worth it all so am totally going to dump the card once I’ve got my 30k Membership Reward Points lol. I would have kept it at £450 but it’s just too expensive now and for nothing gaaaahhhhh!! :@

There is a service called BillHop which will allow you to pay via AMEX and turn that payment into a bank transfer.
HOWEVER there is a 3% charge on all transactions so that would be £30 for £1000.
Only you can decide whether that would be worth paying to trigger the bonus - most people would say no.Thanks

Hi JG,
Thank you but to be honest it’s exactly the same as going direct with Amex. I know £30 isn’t much but I’m just trying to spend it on things that I ‘need’ (plus some designer shoes!!) but honestly the principle of it is making me say give it up ... I mean I’m sad but not that sad haha

I have an Amex card carried over from when I was working. I paid many hotel, petrol bills etc and got lots of cashback. Unfortunately and frustratingly, my best estimate is that only around 60% of retailers accept Amex and when large companies such as B&Q, B&M, Wickes and TUI don't accept, it's even worse when dealing with restaurants, hairdressers, dentists (recent £1500 bill only payable with Visa or Mastercard) and the like. Some months I end up paying almost as much with my back-up Mastercard as my Amex and wonder is it really worth having to ask the retailer if they accept or not. I just wish Amex would pull their finger out and encourage more retailers to accept. However we probably wouldn't get any cachback then. Just keep on trying.0

Retailers don’t take Amex mainly because the transaction fees are significantly higher cost to them.
It’s nothing to do with Amex not encouraging them.0 -
... when large companies such as B&Q, B&M, Wickes and TUI don't accept .. .
You can buy B&Q gift cards with an Amex, in Wilko for example.
Wickes take Amex in store.
Wickes don't take Amex on line, but do take PayPal, which you can then charge to your Amex.
I rarely use any other card. Less than 5pc of my transactions by value have to go on my Mastercard.
I pay my Council Tax and Water Bill with Amex. Aldi and Lidl take it. My dentist and local butcher take it.0 -
Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but this came up on a google search so not worth adding a new thread. Might I say, Im shocked at how negative most of the posts on this thread have been, it was pretty obvious to me from the OP that they thought that an answer was unlikely but were asking on the off chance. Personally I would like to use my amex on a particular site which offers me discounted gift cards (a work perk) and they only accept Visa and Mastercard. In fact one of the things i can buy on there is a pre paid MasterCard which is what gave me the idea. Its a shame there doesn't seem to be an answer because for me, for certain purchases, it means i will need to decide between a 7% gift card or adding to the Amex balance. @Nick_C appreciate the reminder about buying gift cards for shops, I use this to get discount on Netflix! forgot to use it for Amex spend0
