Hello all,
I just got an Amex Platinum and would like to purchase an item for over a grand but they don’t accept Amex gaaaahhhhh. I have seen some posts saying to use PayPal via Amex but as is my luck they don’t accept PayPal too!!
What they accept is:
* One payment by debit or credit card (MasterCard and Visa)
* One payment by bank transfer.
So please can anyone advise whether there is anyway this can be done with no fees?
Happy to be told I’m being unreasonable lol, will just find some other stuff to purchase!!
Thanks!

If they don’t take Amex or Paypal then that’s it.
You’ll need to pay this one via Visa or MasterCard.1 -
Thank you Gary for the prompt response.
I am definitely clutching at straws but what about prepaid MasterCard or Visa cards/gift vouchers? I’ve never used them before. If this doesn’t work then yeah will just use my Visa card damnit lol
Thank you,

What about pre-paid cards?
Do you mean topping them up with your Amex card or purchasing them from a supermarket?0 -
Thanks Gary, honestly I have no idea lol. I have seen you can get a prepaid Visa card so was wondering if this was possible. So I use the Amex to put £1k on the Visa prepaid card and use that to buy the item. Then just pay my Amex obviously.
I don’t know whether it’s best I speak to Visa direct if I can??0 -
That would count as a cash transaction on the Amex which will incur fees and a daily interest rate until paid off.
If the Amex even authorises it since cash transactions/withdrawals are blocked by default.0 -
Thanks Gary, it’s okay, if I’m trying to perform such gymnastics to pay via Amex it’s time to give up!
Time to buy some designer shoes or something else lol
Your help has been much appreciated

Is this item not available anywhere else that does take Amex or Paypal?
That would be your other option0 -
No unfortunately this product is not sold in a shop, only by Advisors and only buy those methods plus on finance. I’m just desperately trying to spend the £4K in 3 months threshold and this would have helped but alas ‘‘twas not meant to be lol.
Anyway thanks again ... am just eyeing up a pair of Louboutins instead teeheehee

There is no way of getting around that. You can't make them accept it!
That's why Amex cardholders carry round a backup card in such circumstances. Personally I use my Virgin Atlantic card for such circumstances.
Amex do not like people taking cash advances. If you manage to find a way to top a prepaid card up, and they find out, then wave goodbye to your Amex card.0 -

If you are going out of your way to spend on things you don't really need just to get to a cashback threshold then that's not really money savings, but if they are things you'd normally be paying for anyway then go for it! Otherwise you're going to be wasting more money than you are likely to save in cashback.
But as above, if the merchant doesn't accept Amex there isn't really much you can do. Pre-paid cards are likely to be treated as cash advances (and come with the associated fees), and I don't think they offer a money transfer option - probably better to just let this one go.0
