I guess it's the 21st century version of the Raydyot fog and driving lights we used to stick all over the front of our Escorts and Avengers in the 1980s to make them look like rally cars.

It does concern me, as it's posted on a public board of which I have been granted access to.

by the logic, everyone single post on this board must concern you and you must reply to every single thread?

Any such lights would almost certainly be illegal.
The item itself looks rather dodgy - it's not pedestrian-friendly.

To be honest, even if it was illegal, are police going to enforce it? I see so many illegal number plates with incorrect font & spacing and police officers seemingly do nothing about it. The owner will just plead ignorance and walk away with a slap on the wrist or a £100 odd fine (whatever it is for illegal plates).

I wonder as to the purpose of this product. It isn't advertising itself as an obfuscation device. But it's just 60cm wide, it will look ugly and out of place on most cars.

It's not for obfuscation. It fits behind the number plate, so that you can mount (probably illegal) extra lights on it, as well as injuring pedestrians.

Looks like something that might make older cars with 5w bulbs more visible.

And how would you do that legally?
AFAIK neither of the examples shown in the link are permissible in the UK.

It's probably made of such cheap and poor quality aluminium that it's unlikely to do too much damage if it were to hit a pedestrian.

Even cheap and poor quality aluminium is stronger than flesh. If it snapped whilst hitting a pedestrian it would then add sharp edges to the fray.

Would it be legal to add extra LED lights to the front of the vehicle to give better illumination?

It can be. The regs are complex & based on the age of the vehicle & if the lights are meant as main beam, dipped headlights side or fog lights

I just want to say that I love the use of the word "obfuscation'. It's a great word that always makes me smile!!

    It's a pity we don't see it's use more often .....
