Help! Top of the chain isn't agreeing to their own completion date?

  • .I think it's pretty understandable that the vendor wants to make one move, not two, seeing as he/she now has found something to buy. It's usual to exchange contracts around 4 weeks before completion, ie mid September. So, it sounds like nobody else in the chain apart from the OP is too fussed about exchanging now.

Our issue doesn't stem from the person we're buying from...it's coming from the person at the top of the 'chain' X number above us.

My solicitor has indicated that everyone else (4+) in the chain is keen to conclude the missives asap which can be done quite early in the process in Scotland. All the other legal work is done. Everyone has already moved their date forward a month to suit the people at the GOP's request, and they are the ones now holding up concluding by being silent.

There’s is no chain, no exchange of contracts and no completion because this is in Scotland.

Is your solicitor seriously saying that there is a chain? The only thing the people at the top of the “chain” are holding up is the sale between them and whoever is buying their property, that’s it.

The person you’re buying from could conclude missives now if she wanted to do so. You need to decide whether it’s worth waiting or to withdraw your offer and start looking for somewhere else.
  • So after a few phone calls to the solicitor and a vague email to the seller's estate agent this morning, the missives for our purchase and the seller's purchase have been concluded.

Don't know about the higher ups and don't care!

Thanks for giving me the confidence to ask some awkward questions. :j
