  • I have to say it's the signature I used to allow them to do the FREE PPI check as I thought. Just don't understand how it's been transferred to a Letter of Authority to allow them to make a claim on my behalf. No paperwork was submitted by myself

Your chances of this are getting slimmer and slimmer.
    Phone the FOS for advice

  • They say they can't do anything as the CMC have 8 weeks to respond. The company say they will investigate my complaint but in the meantime I must settle their invoice otherwise it's £50 extra for each week I don't pay and debt collectors. Given that I don't expect them to uphold my complaint I'll never see the money if I pay them now. I thought they had to put everything on hold while they investigate. The whole thing is a mess.

I don't think they are allowed to add fifty pounds per week if you have an ongoing complaint.
    Have Santander paid you?

I would phone the fos again and explain that they are trying to charge you fifty pounds a week whi!e your comp!ain't is ongoing.
If you didn't sign this !better of authority and you are determined not to pay them because you didn't instruct them ( are you absolutely sure you didnt?) then you wait for their complaint response.
Once they have responded if you disagree then you go to the fos.
I can't understand how they have your signature unless you provided it. Was is signed with a computer pen on a touchscreen?

  • It was an e signature signed on my iPad not on paper but as far as I was concerned I was signing only to give them permission to check if I had PPI. I knew I had, just wasn't sure who the lender was. Anyway, why do these companies have to rip people off.
  • Just to add I have never exchanged paperwork with this CMC

If you have a copy of the contract then read it carefully. If not,go to their website and read it.

  • I'm struggling to see how an e signature for a free ppi check suddenly becomes a Letter of Authority.
