Haha, I'm afraid so mate.
A 12 hour round trip is a bit of a stretch for even the pluckiest of delivery lads!0 -
Got my quote from DIY kitchens and it's a few hundred quid cheaper than the initial quote from Howdens but is for the Altino white range which appears to be much better quality doors than the Greenwich gloss (19mm MDF core as opposed to 16mm chipboard core from Howdens)."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0

Howdens don't deal with customers so the transparancy is a non issue. They don't even talk to customers without the account holders permission so you can't blame Howdens for the tradesman only allowing them to see the customers full price quote.
It's well know in the trade that the true price for the tradesman can be up to 70% for some items and an average of about 50% overall.
The ops quote is a full price quote. You can tell because the tradesman's quote has the full price, discount amount and actual price on each item.
I.e, 1 GGW5231 Greenwich Gls White 600 CC Hi-Line Base White Cab 102.30 discount 50% 51.15 F
Overall Howdens do work out slightly cheaper than most of their competition when factoring in the discount, but that means nothing if the tradesman won't pass it on.0 -

Nah, mate. Howden's full price for a GGW5231 is £230 / £231 (soft-close).
Got the price list on my desk right now."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0 -
Just in case anyone comes across this thread when searching for Howdens I thought I would add a final update.
In the end we went for the Glendevon Gloss doors, which I believe are better quality than the original Greenwich Gls that are listed on the OP.
The revised Howdens quote came in around £5,600 but after haggling and showing them the DIY Kitchens quote we finished up agreeing on them price matching at £4,500.
Happy with the end result but their random pricing structure is a nightmare to navigate."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0 -

Bit more info for any future searchers; They are; 18mm MDF on the Glendevon , 16mm Chipboard on the Greenwich.0 -
http://www.comparingkitchens.com/brands/ I found this site (no idea how current it is) that shows which manufacturers supply High St brands. Specs for B and Q, Benchmarx, Homebase, Ikea, John Lewis, Magnet, Wickes and Wren."Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0

I am having an extension built to house our new kitchen. I have been working with Howdens who have designed a kitchen and following various tweaks have given me a quote. I have been able to deal with them only as a result of my builder having an account with them. I have been reading the threads and would be grateful for some clarification as I am confused.
We are looking at the fairford range. The quote has come in at £13k incl Vat but excluding work surfaces for a kitchen that is about 5mx4m.
1. Is the quote received the discounted price, the full price or the price including a builders markup? The quote came direct from Howdens following a measure up they did with my builder this week. There is only one set of figures.
2. Is this the price I have to pay or should I be asking for a discount (or further discount if it is already discounted)?
3. Howdens are pressing me to deliver by the end of September. A friend told us that we should hold out until october as there is usually a sale on. Is that right and will that mean I will be able to get a further discount?
4. Should I be haggling or do I leave this with my builder to do? I have not obtained other prices from internet kitchens or places like wrens as comparison as I understand that Howdens is good value and good quality and other quotes from local kitchen companies have come in much higher.
Many thanks0 -
Price it up by putting the items in your basket at DIY Kitchens and use that as a price comparison, just like Clive Woody did.
You need to have something to compare it to
And DIY kitchens appear to offer good value.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
