Card Rejected - How Do I Find Out Why?

Options
I've been trying to register my debit card (Nationwide Flex) for use with an online payments provider (Moneybookers).

However, my card is getting rejected - for, I am told, security reasons - "due to processing restrictions imposed by our payments provider"

I know that other people use their Flex cards to fund Moneybookers, so the issue here is that my card is getting knocked back specifically.

However Moneybookers refuse to tell me on what grounds my card is being refused; and when I then asked for a contact for their payments provider so I could follow the matter up with them, they told me "it would not be possible to provide you with the details of our payments provider, as this information is confidential."

If there is some kind of security issue with my debit card, I definitely want to know what it is.

So my question is - how can I go about finding out what the problem is, and what are my rights regarding access to this information?

  • Contact your card provider.

If it is a security check you can re-apply the transaction once it has been cleared.
  • I didn't actually get as far as a transaction: they wouldn't let me register the card with them.

But it is possible that the root problem was with my own card provider: I'll put the issue to them and see what they're saying to it...
  • Does your card have the Visa or Mastercard logo on it? if not it might be the reason it's refused. Some online businesses refuse all cards that don't carry at least one of those logos.

Lucifer could be on the right track with this..... Alot of online shops and services dont take Electron or Maestro........

Other than that id ring them...........The bank is bound to tell you the reason and hopefully its a niggle or something that can be fixed quickly.

    Nationwide Flex is a Visa.

Have you double-checked all the details - Name on the card, registered address, From/To dates, issue number - I occasionally get one of them wrong.
  • Yeah, it's a VISA debit, and I've double checked all the details (tried about 3 times to get it to go thru). My Dad uses the identical type of Flex debit card with a Moneybookers account, so I don't know why mine is getting refused.

I am still a bit bemused that Moneybookers refuse to tell me what the specific problem is with my card (they are adamant that the card cannot be used, rather than suggesting that I may have messed up the registration procedure) - and also refuse to tell me who their payments provider is so that I can ask them about it...

Nationwide may have 'stepped up' security. My card has been blocked too.
