An update on the situation. Virgin sent an extensive reply and partly upheld my complaint. They agree that the advert on Money Saving Expert did not show the dates during which the offer was available. They state that it was "unclear" and "did not mention that the offer was only valid....within the window". They accept that I applied in good faith on the basis of the advert but my application was just a few days after the date the offer closed. On that basis, they have provided compensation. Keeping the screen print of the ad clearly helped but I should have read the detail on the Virgin site not trusted details on a third party site. Thanks to everyone for your replies and interest.0
