  • I want to thank everyone for commenting, but because i have a disability in learning and have a mental illness i find many of the comments to be very harsh and quite upsetting to say the least, i would like to thank mpython for a straight forward answer to my question, and i hope that the other commenters can understand that there many people out there that have problems understanding and learning. And Butlers1982 i'm not embarrassed, as you can tell from this reply.

I haven't seen anyone make comments which are upsetting in any way.

In your original post you refer to "banking regulations". There are no banking regulations which prevent banks changing money for you. But equally well, as everyone else has pointed out, there's no obligation on banks to provide a cash changing service for free. Or for Tesco to give you free food. Or anything else equally ludicrous.

Is this an excuse for not knowing why a Bank you don't Bank with wouldn't change your money?

If so, Surely a disability in learning would mean you'd have a neutral opinion without knowing whether the bank was right or wrong if you didn't know.

How come you'd already decided they were wrong which means you would have had to think about it. Therefore you would have to have read somewhere/somehow expected (learnt from somewhere or previous experience in other words) that they should have changed your money.

I don't understand that comments relevance unless it's used for sympathy or an excuse.
  • Hi Acliffe, i can kinda understand wat u mean, it feels like ppl expect u to understand the ins and outs of banking etc.

I tried this out after wat u said in ur original post and it works, a nice money saving tip, the next time u go into a bank and they ask if u hav an account just say yes, they dont ask for proof and will change ur money just like that, hope that helps. :p

God why are you all having a go at the OP. Let's get this right. Change for a tenner? Is it such a big deal for a bank you don't bank with, change the money? It's bloody petty as far as I'm conerned.

And all the rubbish about the cost, you lot make me laugh. I bet most of you claimed money from you Banks due to ther over charging.

Banks are making billions a day in profits, as soon as someone gets charged for their overdraft, people screem about the money they make.

Give the OP a break will you

Maybe we see it as a petty thing that they should do, but banks are a business and to run a sucessful business (something you obviously don't do) you have to cut costs where you can whilst trying to provide a decent service to your customers. One of these is not providing services to non-customers. Yes it was just one £10 for one customer, but scale that up to all the customers that may fancy doing it and every day it costs money, uses up tellers time (again costing money) and this makes it harder for customers to see someone in their branch - something I think you'd complain about.

The op wasn't a customer in any way shape or form - not even a potential customer so wanted to cost the bank money and use up time for another customer. The bank stopped this therefore increasing their proffitability and decreasing waiting time for the other customers.
  • Thank you Nealallen for understanding my point that really helps, i wish there were more people like you on this forum, thank you so much.

And thanks Big_Pig for the idea, i might try that the next time i need to change money in a emergency.

Black sheep, what gives u the right to think i wasn't a potential customer, i could have been but after the arragont attitiude i got from the cashier when i told her i wasnt a customer the bank has lost my custom and future custom, because of there rude and arragont staff.

You're welcome Acliff. Some people here are to quick to jump on the bandwagon. Wait till their banks charge them £30.00 for going £1.00 overdrawn. Heads will roll.

acliffe, it is not fair to play the disability card now when you did not mention that initially. People gave their responses as they would to someone in full health, and had they known that you had a learning disability they would have taken that into account when answering your question. Your above response implies that people were being nasty because of your condition. That isn't really fair.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • thats not what i meant, that was bad wording on my part, sorry, even if i was in full health the commenters didn't really follow the Forum Etiquette of

"Pls be nice to all MoneySavers. There's no such thing as a stupid question, and even if you disagree courtesy helps."

i didn't feel there was much courtesy just people expecting me to now how banks work which i don't, not everyone is as intelligent as themselves.
