Our previous completion times have varied between 11am and 3.30pm. We also once had the issue where our removers arrived at the new house after completion had occurred and found our vendors still nowhere near packed up. Our removal guys (Bishop's Move) ended up helping them get the last of their stuff out. Crazily they were putting everything into storage so imho could have been far better organized.

When we were doing similar - last year, when our sale was due to complete ahead of that our purchase - we began emptying the largeish four bed a week before so that come moving day we had very little left to do.

On another occasion our vendors - who had already vacated the house - actually offered us the keys at exchange (not usually recommended!) and we accepted, moving our stuff in gradually over a week. We did insure our contents at the new place. That move was DIY and took seven large loads (largest self drive you can get ), but we did have a vast quantity of stuff back then.

When we've used professional removal companies, it's usually been two/three very large vans and a couple of times it's involved moving stuff out over several days. Our last pro move took three days to empty the house (already packed up) and two days to unload at the other end. That was with five blokes......
