*double cleansing - is this make up remover then cleanse? If it’s just cleanse x2 why isn’t your cleanser good enough to work with one application?
*toner - unsure of its purpose - second cleanse to ensure all cleanser is removed? meant to reduce pores but apparently this is a myth? gentle ones may only simply hydrate the skin?
*facial mist - literally don’t get it. Isn’t moisturiser good enough? If your skin is really dry a mist isn’t going to do much.
*serum - Unless they have a targeted purpose, isn’t it just moisturiser?
*masks - again, why isn’t cleansing/moisturising enough? Good for super dry skin only?

Years ago, toners were the last step or make-up removal but now they are more high-tech so provide more benefits i.e. hydration, exfoliation.
Facial mist - ditto, don't think it is needed. It's a feel good product with no actual benefits in my opinion.
Serums - you are right unless they have a purpose, they are essentially a thinner version of moisturiser. I use vitamin-C serums for brightening purposes and also some others for clogged skin.
Masks - generally not needed if your skincare regimen is good.
Recycling is itself not an answer and most of the packaging ends up in oceans/mountains. It is estimated 91% of plastic isn't recycled. It is not only that - in order to produce packaging or ship the products, a lot of other resources are also used. There is one way and one way only and it is to reduce the usage.
It also applies to fashion - the fashion industry is rife with human rights abuses in developing countries and fast-fashion habits are very harmful for the environment. We feel good about recycling goods but the reality is more bleak when it comes to stats about recycling.ally.0 -

*toner - I think you have to find the right one.. in all these years the only one I thought made a difference was Neals Yard palmarosa toner for oily/combo skin, made my skin super smooth, although I was using the whole range at the time so can’t even be sure it was that! Will repurchase after I finish what I’m using.
*facial mist - I use setting spay too, but I mean the other ones. Deffo unnecessary for me.
*serum - thanks for the explanation, I wonder if they are hydrating enough to use on their own? OMG so ‘serum in moisturiser’s should my HG product? *googles natural ones..
*masks - yeah treat time in the bath for me only, my Neals Yard Wild Rose beauty balm is useful as it’s a cleanser & mask, which I also don’t get but seems to be true! So it won’t languish in a cupboard until I decide to have a bath + mask. My minimalist other half has even fallen for masks because she is stressed!
Oh and another one -
*foot cream - not the cracked heel balm but just normal moisturising foot cream, no different to body moisturiser!
For my twopenneth worth:-
Double cleanse - I do this but only a night because I use TBS Camomile Cleansing butter primarily to remove makeup followed by a thick layer of Lacura hot cloth cleanser (use as a mask).
Toner - I swear that a glycolic toner has helped keep my skin even toned. At the moment I’m using the Lacuna Nip and Fab copy wipes which are brilliant. I do follow this with LE IBST. It’s supposed to restore the ph balance after the glycolic. Not sure what would happen if I omitted this step but I like the fresh feeling. Only use thes am.
Facial mist ie setting spray - this has been a godsend during the hot weather.
Serum - love the Lacura one. Boosts my moisturiser. I do use Rosehip oil as well. Only in the pm.
Mask - I must admit my kin looks brighter when I use one. I am probably on the last application of the Skin Chenicals one and then will use LUSH Cup o Coffee. Only use when I wash my hair twice a week
Foot cream - I don’t get this but am lazy about looking after my feet anyway.
The one for me is eye cream mostly because I think it’s a further step and one I omit too often so I never get a god idea of how effective a product is.Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!

Oooh so interesting Valm! I’ve always used eye cream for dark circles (have given up, they probably require questionable laser treatment / cant change my bone structure!) but I still use normal eye cream because the industry tells us that the skin is delicate and face cream may cause bags because it’s too heavy. Who knows if this is this is true or not tho?! An un-fragranced face serum is probably good enough and probably cheaper than eye cream! :rotfl:0 -
Two UUs this morning:
The Body Shop Almond Milk & Honey Cream Scrub 250ml WDBA and will do in the future. This is a lovely gentle scrub, not too rough like some body scrubs.
Hada Labo Goku-Jyun Hyaluronic Acid Lotion (Light) 170ml WDBA and have done. This is lovely and light and hydrating.0 -

I have to be careful as to what I apply to my eye bags as if the cream is too thick I get milia and thankfully haven't suffered with this for a good while. At the end of the day, my lifestyle, doesn't help the situation. Whilst I get plenty of sleep I don't hydrate myself enough with water and enjoy a few glasses of vino. I get away with hiding behind glasses. xBack for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. Today's UU - 1 x Collagen Essence Sheet Mask, a Korean brand I bought from TKMaxx. Felt good on my skin and left me glowing.ally.0

Sunny-money *Double cleanse - I use an oil/cream then Micellar water, I’ve been told that’s the wrong way around but I prefer it that way.
*Toner - I love Lancôme tonique douceur, it keeps my redness at bay as it adds another layer of moisture, I find that’s what causes the redness.
*Face mist - I don’t like setting spray as I find it feels sticky, my skin will get red and hot during the day at times and face mist is brilliant!
*Serum - no I don’t think it would be hydrating enough on its own, also no serum has SPF so no good for daytime.
Regarding foot cream, I think it’s meant to help deodorise or something, but I either use hand cream or body butter unless I’ve got a foot cream in a set. The only specific foot product I buy is Avon’s crackle mousse.
maddiemay - I also won’t be giving up my routine, I look pretty good for 41, nobody guesses me above 35! I do my best in a lot of ways and that will have to be enough. The one for me is eye cream mostly because I think it’s a further step and one I omit too often so I never get a god idea of how effective a product is.
I rarely skip eye cream, but my eye care is for soothing rather than anti-ageing, I have very sensitive eyes and I find eye cream really helps them feel better. No Buying Unnecessary Toiletries 2023

Good point about SPF - I am slack with this since moving to the UK  there’s only one Neals Yard moisturiser with SPF but natural SPF can be tacky so I didn’t buy it. I rely on the SPF in my foundation, whatever the factor it may be. I know a few of you probably have HG sunscreens - what do you recommend and when to apply it?0
