Adjustable bed uncomfortable-do I have any rights?

I have osteo arthriris & problems with back, neck and more. After a lot of careful thought & research and a showroom visit we bought an adjustable bed (head/feet up & down, tilting up/down etc) It was expensive, think decent second hand car price. Delivered & set up yesterday, the mattress is so firm its hard and I can't tolerate any of the up/down features, after 5 minutes or so I'm so uncomfortable I have to lie flat on my side again. We don't remember the mattress in the showroom being this firm. After 5 uncomfortable sleepless hours I moved into the spare bedroom. I feel physically sick at the thought of the money we have spent on this bed, our old bed which was going to a charity shop is more comfortable. I will contact the company later, do I have any right to return, there is nothing in any of their info about what to do if you are dissatisfied .
Thank you

Is there anything on your order form defining the mattress type? (Soft, Medium, Firm, or a number to specify firmness ... typically 1 is Soft, 5 is Hard, etc.)
  • Thought I'd posted,but can't see my reply.....
Mattress is an AirFlow active comfort, just one version (no soft/med/firm) if the showroom one had been so firm (hard) we'd never have selected. But there's a huge difference between trying a bed fir 15mins & actually sleeping on it.

Explain the issue to them and ask to swap the mattress you have with the showroom one?

As you say very very difficult to determine a mattress by lying on it for 5 mins .
A week or more is required .Retailers usually say try for at least one month .
One the firmness they are probably going to say is the same as the one in the shop.

Airflow just looks to be a marketing tool .
    Varying types from £85 upwards.

Just an opinion re mattresses in general. I realise we're all different but surely a firm mattress is much better in the long run for your back, neck and arthritis?

A night on a soft mattress in a hotel nearly cripples me. Firmer the better.

No firm is wrong and probably does more damage .
It all depends upon users shape and build .
Support is the word and thats down to the coil springs more than anything .

You're absolutely correct and why a lot of respected mattress manufacturers and sellers are trying to get away from labelling mattresses as soft/medium firm etc as it's largely meaningless and can confuse. It's all about support.

Medical advice used to be that a firm mattress was better but current medical advice leans more towards a medium mattress made of something like memory foam that fits to your individual shape and offers support in the right places. Maybe in another few years advice will change again.

I bought a bed/mattress 18 months ago, I also thought it was firmer than the store mattress ( the mattress in store was new so hadnt been tested a lot).

Its a Vispring and they do offer to swop , but we used it for a few weeks as suggested and after a few uncomfortable nights, I can now say its the most comfortable bed I have ever had

We bought a firm dunlopillo mattress around 10 years ago now. Just like you I felt we might have made a huge mistake a week in where I felt it was soooo hard the floor would be better.
Stuck with it and it became very comfortable and by 2 weeks all my back aches had gone.
