Buyers rant about postage

I switched some of my smaller items over to postage NOT included as an experiment to see if sales increased, these are all small envelope items where I can send up to 4 in the same envelope as a large letter under 100g, and I charge £1 for 2nd class.

I had a message this morning as follows " I was buying 3 and postage was £1 but when I changed my mind to buy only 1 it was still £1!!? why wasn't it 33p why are you charging me postage for 3 when I'm only buying 1?? If I by one will you charge me 33p as otherwise its not fair"

Blocked (obviously) and just replied that I still had to send and pay for one envelope and one large letter postage regardless of how many items package contained.
I've just had another email back basically saying I don't have a clue what I'm doing and I should buy some *** scales ...

I may go back to postage included and just add the £1 charge to the item cost and make myself some extra profit.

This is all on top of the illiterate and nonsensical messages I still get on facebook marketplace, some of them I cannot make head nor tails of.

I always send my parcels signed for. Had one having a go at me because they said that I was charging way too much for signed for - £4 - when 'if I looked on the RM website, it clearly says that signed for is £2.30'. So I was ripping folk off.
I replied asking for a link where it says that. Never got a reply. So I blocked them.
Another one said that they wanted to buy an item off my for £2 (it was listed for £7.50) with signed for posted thrown in. They got blocked too.
I've had a 'get some scales' comment too.
Blocking stupid people is a ton of fun. I think that some of them have hoarded some old RM booklets from 2001 with prices from that time on. Just chancers, some people. If you don't like the pricing, buy from someone else.

I had one recently saying they could only afford £3.50 (item price was £9.99 incl, P&P) and would I accept it. This was for an item that would cost £2.79 to post (Hermes). Replied saying I believed my price was reasonable and then blocked them.

I had a couple of baby items listed for £1 for both on Facebook for local collection.

Worth more (maybe £5 for both plus postage) but couldn't be bothered to list on ebay.

Got a woman asking if I'd post, so I said it would be £5 all in. Less than she would pay on eBay, and then £2.95 it would cost me for postage and £1 for the hassle of taking 3 kids to the post office and PayPal fee.

I then get a ranting message saying it is far too much, and she will pay £1.90 and I can send it as a large letter!! (Ok, it might go as a large letter, but only if I spent ages packaging it)

Needless to say I declined and told her to find one on eBay for £1.90.

She then changed her mind about the £5 but I declined. Some people are not worth the hassle!!

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I love the block bidder option, my list of people I've blocked is growing all the time.

I saw someone in the Post Office recently who couldn't work out why a 10g something or other was so expensive to post. It was a little bit bulky and had to go as a small parcel. When she finally agreed to pay the price they asked if she wanted to upgrade it for more money. She started exploding again!

I've never seen a survey but I'd bet there's a high percentage who probably do think you can post something weighing 10g for 33p no matter its size or weight.

Apart from a very rare auction I haven't charged extra for postage for years. I did charge below the post rate for a while (whilst incorporating the difference), so I'd charge £1 and the post was £1.20. I occasionally received messages offering to pay the difference and some nice feedback too.

My favourite at the moment is on FB Marketplace where 7 people have asked whether an item is still available.....

To the last one who did this I have said" if the page says it is still available then it is! "
  • I get this often, why do morons message about postage? Its clearly marked what cost it is, either accept it if you want the item or purchase elsewhere. Simple.

Because its unfair of a seller to charge £1 for one item when they can send 3 for the same postage price. :)

And they ordered it over an hour ago and it has not arrived yet, what is the delay? :)

Some excellent sellers make average sellers look bad also. Ordered something around 5pm and it arrived the next day even though they had a 3 day estimate. So you get a seller than takes 3 days he seems slow and god forbid if its late.

Interesting how you so many views on the workings of ebay though.
