Phone now needed for Santander online account access.

Quote from Santander site

Will I be able to continue using Online Banking without a mobile?
We require you to have a mobile phone because for some transactions we need to text you a One Time Passcode for authorisation. This is highlighted in our terms and conditions.

But my wife and I have separate accounts and share a phone. Why cannnot we still have access via a PC?

You can - either buy a cheap second phone , or one of you switch to eg nationwide which allows verification without a ohone (via a card reader thingy).

Is using the landline not an option a sit is with Barclays, it says they can text a passcode to my mobile or call the landline which what happens anyway when I add a new payee except they don't send a passcode they call either the mobile or the landline (my choice which 1).

I believe Santander can send their texts only to a mobile number.

Your wife and you share a phone? As in one number for both of you? or two separate numbers on one line? Nothing to do with banking but why do you not have separate phones?

Why not just get a pay as you go sim, you dont ever have to use it your top it off. Just have a 5 pound balance on there and use it for text alerts ec

You mean share a mobile phone?

That should still work for desktop access as long as you have access to it for the OTP at the time you want to log in and she, when she wants to log in.

Lloyds can use the landline. You get as far as you can online, and then a message pops up saying they need verification. You tick whichever of the options you want to use - mobile or landline - and the phone then rings with an automated one-time access code.
Pop that in the on-screen box and the payment then goes through.

One of my savings accounts - Tescobank I think - do it the other way round. A code appears on the screen, and then when they ring up you say or key-in the code into the phone.

There's got to be a landline option - there are areas of no phone reception even in towns, not just rural areas like us.
If I tried to use the mobile the message would take a few hours to arrive, or I'd have to walk up the hill to try to find better reception.
