I have a gap in the fence filled by a large troth container with a gooseberry bush in the troth.
Unfortunately something or someone had climbed over and flattened the gooseberry bush.
I would like to put something dangerous in it's place but i don't know if the usual spiky hedges are suitable as container plants such as Pyracantha,Hawthorn, Blackthorn etc.
I don't thing Holly is great but there is such thing as Hedgehog Holly which looks nasty.:D
Enjoy everyday like it's your last!

Hedgehog holly looks good and, unlike some of the other plants you have mentioned, is evergreen.

It's easily kept in shape with a hedge trimmer - just be sure to don strong gauntlets before picking the trimmings up !

Great advice but even more confused about which could be suited to a container!

My neighbour has a pyracantha shaped into a small tree in a large pot and I've seen others in pots. They are evergreen here in the southwest uk, lovely flowers and berries.
I used to grow one as part of a hedge to stop people climbing on the wall. Nightmare to prune though however careful you are. You need gloves.
There are all sorts of holly that grow in tubs, varigated etc. Same aplies to pruning.....
Both will tollerate a certain amount of drought but you will have to water occasionally.
I doubt the person who landed in your gooseberry bush didn't get away unscathed though!

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Another thing that is fairly evil is Rosa Rugosa. I know it's not evergreen but it does have many thorny stems - not sure if it would grow in a pot. From memory grows about 6ft high and 6ft across (if not pruned) when mature. has lovely magenta pinky flowers and huge hips.
I wouldn't want to fall on those hairy thorny stems.

hedgehog holly is also a scary one!
