Arrgghh
I'm now worried that my car is registered at the wrong address!!
I've had the car 3 months, its taxed, mot'd and insured all at my address but I can't find the log book so I'm now questioning whether I ever got one!
I live at number 8 and the parking letter went to number 30 -
Is that the previous keepers address?0
-
No, it was bought from a completely different town.
The letter just went to (addressed to) the wrong numbered house on my street.
3 and 8 are fairly similar???0 -
Read what Pete Wishert, MP said in the House of Commons recently about Smart Parking.
"I am sick and tired of receiving emails from people complaining about the behaviour of parking companies, telling me that they will never again visit Perth city centre because of the negative experience they had when they had the misfortune to end up in a car park operated by one of these companies. I have received more complaints about one car park in the city of Perth than about any other issue. That car park is operated by the lone ranger of the parking cowboys: the hated and appalling Smart Parking—I see that many other Members are unfortunate enough to have Smart Parking operating in their constituencies. It has reached the stage where one member of my staff now spends a good part of each day just helping my constituents and visitors to my constituency to navigate the appeals process.
…
The BPA does not have the ability to regulate these companies and has shown no sign whatsoever that it is trying to get on top of some of the sharper practices. The BPA gives a veneer of legitimacy to some of the more outlandish rogue operators by including them in their membership, allowing them to continue to operate. The Bill will oblige operators such as Smart Parking to amend their practices."
Nine times out of ten these tickets are scams so complain to your MP.
Parliament is well aware of the MO of these private parking companies, and on 15th March 2019 a Bill was enacted to curb the excesses of these shysters. Codes of Practice are being drawn up, an independent appeals service will be set up, and access to the DVLA's date base more rigorously policed, persistent offenders denied access to the DVLA database and unable to operate.
Hopefully life will become impossible for the worst of these scammers, but until this is done you should still complain to your MP, citing the new legislation.

Just as the clampers were finally closed down, so hopefully will many of these Private Parking Companies. You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0 -
Smart are known for typos, they send my brother a pcn recently where the ANPR camera picked up the correct VRM for a VW in Perth , Scotland (the Pete Wishart area) and they typed in one letter incorrectly into their terminal and issued a pcn against a Toyota that he has never been to Scotland in , never mind Perth
so technology 1 , low paid smart parking moron nil
email a SAR to SMART DPO and get all their docs and pictures and data etc , to see if their cameras got the correct details and if they typed the wrong address onto the NTK, plus check your log book first to ensure the correct digit has been put in by the dvla in the first place
all this is key to what went wrong , knowing what went wrong helps to try to fix it, especially if SMART are to blame0 -

You need to find the V5 and confirm the correct address is on it, or check with the DVLA the address they have on record. You should be able to do this by 'phone but you will need confirmation in writing.
Once you have proof that the DVLA/V5 has the correct address, then you and your neighbour can make the complaints about a data breach.I married my cousin. I had to...I don't have a sister. All my screwdrivers are cordless."You're Safety Is My Primary Concern Dear" - Laks0 -
Assuming you are within the 28 days to appeal I assume you have bunged in the usual NEWBIES thread template appeal now, which usually causes Smart to fold?PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

If the dealer put 3 instead of 8 then yes the V5c will have gone to 3. They may well have binned it. You need to sort this out.
If the V5c is incorrectly addressed then you will need to let Smart know too. If they issue court papers to the wrong address you could end up with a bit of a headache.0 -
Ditto to what C-m says in post 18 above!0

Right, I've been in touch with dvla. It was registered to the wrong number on my street. They have amended it and are sending out a new logbook for me.
I'm going to send the draft to smart parking today, I take it I need to tell them the car was registered wrong and ask them to amend it on their records also??0
